What it does

curves

The levelling curves: how much XP each level costs, and how a total XP turns into a level, the XP into that level and the XP the next level needs.

  • steady: 100 XP for every level, up to level 50.
  • steep: 100 XP for the first level, then 40% more each level (rounded to tens), up to level 50.
  • quadratic: 25 × n² + 75 XP from level n to n+1 (100, 175, 300, 475, 700, …), up to level 50.
  • custom: your own table of XP costs; its length sets the top level.

get(name, opts) builds a curve object with cost(n), totalFor(level), levelFor(total) and table(n); canonical normalises a name (aliases such as linear or exponential) and describe returns the catalogue entry.

Mostly internal: saveKit.save picks the curve from Save.setup({ curve = ... }), and game code reaches the live curve through Save.curve(). Pure functions with no engine calls, so tests and tools can use it directly.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

saveKit.curves: the levelling curves. A curve says how much XP each level costs, and turns a player's total XP into their level, the XP they have into it and the XP the next level needs. `steady` (100 XP every level), `steep` (100 XP, then 40% more each level, rounded to tens), `quadratic` (25 x n^2 + 75: grows with the square of the level) and `custom` (your own table).

canonical(name: any) → string

Normalise a curve name: "steady", "steep", "quadratic" or "custom" (aliases: flat, linear, even, exponential, steeper, square, squared, polynomial, table, own). Nil for an unknown name.

get(name: any, opts: any?) → any

Build a curve: `name` is "steady", "steep", "quadratic", "custom" or a table of XP costs (custom). opts = { maxLevel, table }. Returns { name, maxLevel, cost(n), totalFor(level), levelFor(total), table(n) }.

cost(n: number) → number

XP to go from level n to level n+1 (0 at or past the top level).

argtypedescription
nnumber

totalFor(level: number) → number

Total XP needed to stand at the start of `level`.

argtypedescription
levelnumber

levelFor(total: number) → void

Level, XP into that level and XP the next level needs (0 at the top), for a total.

table(count: number?) → void

The first `count` costs, for tables in a readme or on a board.
