What it does

deck

Everything a turn of Helsinki Life can draw, and every word the Konduktööri says.

local Deck = require("game.deck.deck")
CallGives you
Deck.drawEvent(player)the next event card this player's life can actually be dealt
Deck.careers(player)three careers to choose between at Pasila station
Deck.homes()the three homes, cheapest first
Deck.line(key)one of the Konduktööri's narration lines, as printed text
Deck.speech(record)what he SAYS for a card or a line, which is what his clip holds
Deck.voiceManifest()every clip the deck expects, as { key, text }
Deck.turnLine(colour)the turn-call key for a player colour
Deck.stack(id)put a named card on top of the pile (for a scripted moment)

What is in it

44 event cards, all Helsinki: löyly on the Hernesaari shore, Vappu in the fountain, the first snow, kaamos and the expensive lamp, black ice on Kaisaniemenkatu, the gull that takes your salmon soup at the Market Square, a 1993 Muumi mug at the Hietalahti flea market, a ticket inspector on tram 3, a 1928 pipe under your floor, the icebreaker off Suomenlinna.

Nine careers, six open to anyone (tram driver, barista, builder, chef, ferry deckhand, IT support) and three that need the Kumpula degree (architect, doctor, researcher). Three homes: a Kallio studio, a Töölö Jugend flat, an Eira sea-front apartment.

Nineteen narration lines for the turns, the fork, the milestones and the end.

Card shape

{ id, kind = "event", title, sub, text, money?, onni?, tone, voice, requires? }

tone is "good" / "bad" / "wry" and sub is the place it happens, both for the card art. requires gates a card on a life already lived ("career", "home", "degree", "married", "children"); an ineligible card goes back in the pile and another is drawn, so nobody celebrates an anniversary before the wedding.

voice is the card's own id, and it is also the name of the .soundClip under game/deck/voice/ holding the Konduktööri reading it.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

DECK: the Helsinki content of HELSINKI LIFE. local Deck = require("game.deck.deck") Everything a turn can draw: the event cards, the careers dealt at Pasila station, the homes offered in Töölö, and the Konduktööri's own lines. The rules slice is the only caller; it copies what it needs into state. The four entry points the rest of the game codes against: Deck.drawEvent(player) -> card a shuffled draw pile, reshuffled when spent Deck.careers(player) -> {career} three careers to choose between Deck.homes() -> {home} the three homes, cheapest first Deck.line(key) -> string one of the Konduktööri's spoken lines CARD { id, kind = "event", title, text, money?, onni?, voice?, tone, sub, say? } CAREER{ id, kind = "career", title, salary, needsDegree, onni, blurb, voice? } HOME { id, kind = "home", title, price, onni, resale, blurb, voice? } `voice` names a .soundClip asset under game/deck/voice/ holding the Konduktööri reading that card. It is the CARD ID for an event card and the LINE KEY for a narration line, so a clip is found by name and nothing else. A card whose clip never generated keeps its text: the Narrator shows the caption either way and only the sound is missing. `say` is what is SPOKEN when it differs from what is PRINTED. Absent, the Konduktööri reads "<title>. <text>". Deck.speech(card) is the one place that decision is made, so the generator and the Narrator always agree.

card(id: ?, title: ?, sub: ?, text: ?, opts: ?) → void

Event cards `tone` is "good" | "bad" | "wry": the colour the card is drawn in and the sound it lands with. `sub` is the place it happens, printed under the title. `requires` gates a card on the player's life so far ("career", "home", "married", "children", "degree"); a card whose requirement is unmet is put back and another is drawn.

career(id: ?, title: ?, salary: ?, onni: ?, needsDegree: ?, blurb: ?) → void

Careers Six open to anyone, three that ask for the Kumpula degree. `salary` is paid at every PAYDAY tile; `onni` is the one-off joy of taking the job.

line(key: ?, text: ?, say: ?) → void

The Konduktööri's lines Keyed narration. `text` is printed; `say` is spoken. A key IS the clip name, so game/deck/voice/<key>.soundClip is the Konduktööri reading it.

line(key: ?) → void

The printed body of a narration line, or nil for an unknown key.

turnLine(playerKey: ?) → void

The turn-call key for a player colour, e.g. "green" -> "turn_green".

argtypedescription
playerKey?

speech(rec: ?) → void

WHAT THE KONDUKTÖÖRI SAYS for any card or line record. The generator and the Narrator both go through here, so the clip and the caption never drift.

voiceManifest( ) → void

Every clip this deck expects, as { key, text }: the manifest the voice generator reads and the Narrator checks itself against.

refill( ) → void

eligible(c: ?, player: ?) → void

Does this player's life so far satisfy the card's `requires` gate?

player?

drawEvent(player: ?) → void

Draw the next event card this player can actually be dealt. Cards the player's life does not reach yet are held back and returned to the pile, so an unmarried player never draws the anniversary.

argtypedescription
player?

stack(id: ?) → void

Put a specific card on top of the pile: the deterministic hook the rules slice and the tests use to draw a named card next.

argtypedescription
id?

remaining( ) → void

How many cards are left before the pile reshuffles.

careers(player: ?) → void

Three careers to choose between. The degree-only ones are offered only to a player who came down through Kumpula; everyone is offered three.

The three homes, cheapest first. Always all three: the choice is the point.
