What it does

storm

The supercell, as the second thing fighting you.

require("game.storm.storm") registers the storm system with the AnvilDirector at order 20 — between the runner's hands and the threats — and sets A.claims.storm. The StormHost component beside this module is what performs that require from the scene.

What it drives

Field on A.stateWhat it is
altitude / climbRatemetres climbed, and how fast right now. Altitude is the score and the clock.
airMulthe updraft/downdraft column, K.STORM.downdraftMin..updraftMax. It multiplies climbBase, so the air decides the pace of the whole run.
windthe total signed lateral acceleration on the airframe, units/s². Wander and gust are already in it.
gust0..1 gust intensity, unsigned — a display value, not a force.
weather"clear" / "rain" / "hail", in cells that last 5–16 s.
visibilityeased toward the weather's target; A.rules.sight() folds in the blind.
boltT / boltPower / boltXthe last strike, its decaying flash envelope, and where in the shaft it hit.

Events: bolt, weather, hit (kind = "hail"), shake.

The three bands, and why they fly differently

Escalation is not one multiplier. Each band gets its own air, wind, weather deck and strike rhythm, so the shaft changes character rather than just getting harder:

aircrosswindweatherstrikes
SHELFmean 0.84 — the air sits on you, the climb is slowmild, slow to reverserain, some clearfar apart, weak
COREmean 1.02, swings wide and fastfull strengthmostly hail — most of your sight, and it chews the hullconstant, hard
ANVILmean 1.46 — the whole shaft is thrown past youthe worst shear in the stormclear; you can finally seerare, and every one is full power

The profiles are keyed by band index, and each carries its own wind scale rather than reading K.BANDS[i].wind. A.K is shared by eight systems and is read-only only by convention; the storm keeps the numbers it cannot fly without, and checkIntegrity logs one warning if the shared band table stops describing the climb.

Lightning

A strike is three things at once, on one envelope so the whole game flickers together:

  • the blind — A.rules.sight() collapses for K.STORM.boltBlind;
  • the reveal — A.rules.flash() runs a leader spike, a stutter of restrikes and a decay over K.STORM.boltReveal, and the BoltLight anchor is driven off the square of it, which lights the entire shaft at once;
  • the channel — a forked discharge drawn in StormBoltChannel (a pool of 17 bars under the Shaft anchor, behind the play plane), thinning as the flash decays and hidden between strikes.

M.strike(x?) fires one on demand. M.report() returns everything the storm is doing as one table. M.rebuild() remints the channel pool.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

storm — the second opponent in ANVIL CROWN. The supercell is not scenery. It is the thing you are also fighting: * a crosswind that wanders on its own clock and gusts hard on the band changes, so flying straight walks you into the shaft wall; * an updraft/downdraft column that changes how fast the storm comes down at you, which is the climb rate and therefore the clock; * weather cells — rain, hail, a clear pocket — that take your sight away; * and the lightning: a strike blinds for a beat, then lights the entire shaft so you get one look at what is already falling toward you. WHAT THIS SLICE WRITES (and nothing else writes): state.altitude metres climbed, 0 → K.CLIMB.ceiling state.climbRate metres/second right now state.airMul updraft/downdraft multiplier, K.STORM.downdraftMin..updraftMax state.wind TOTAL signed lateral acceleration on the airframe, units/s². Wander AND gust are already folded in — add this straight to the airframe's lateral velocity and nothing else. See the note on `gust` below. state.gust 0..1 gust INTENSITY, unsigned, for display only. It is deliberately not an acceleration: `wind` is the whole force, so a reader that mistakenly adds `gust` to it changes the flight model by at most 1 unit/s². state.weather "clear" | "rain" | "hail" state.visibility 1 = clear, 0 = blind (eased, never stepped) state.boltT state.time of the last strike state.boltPower 0..1 flash envelope, decaying after a strike state.boltX where in the shaft it struck WHAT IT FIRES: "bolt" { x, power, reveal } · "weather" { weather, visibility } "hit" { amount, kind = "hail", x, y } (hail chews the hull) "shake" { amount, seconds } WHAT IT OWNS IN THE SCENE: the `BoltLight` anchor (the lightning's light), and a `StormBoltChannel` root it spawns under the `Shaft` anchor holding the strike's forked channel geometry. It touches nothing else.

Model

rand(a: number, b: number) → number

argtypedescription
anumber
bnumber

bandIndex( ) → number

profile( ) → void

checkIntegrity( ) → void

`A.K` is shared, mutable and read by eight systems. If the band table stops describing the climb it is supposed to describe, every slice that escalates against `state.band` is quietly flying the wrong band — so say it once, loudly, instead of letting it look like a tuning problem.

visibilityTarget(w: string) → number

argtypedescription
wstring

boltCore( ) → void

The strike channel

boltHalo( ) → void

makeSegment(parent: ?, index: number) → void

One segment: a thin bar whose long axis is +Y, wrapped in a wider, dimmer halo child so the channel has a corona instead of a hairline.

ensureChannel(anchors: ?) → boolean

placeSegment(seg: ?, ax: number, ay: number, bx: number, by: number, thickness: number) → void

Lay a segment between two points on the channel plane.

thicknessnumber

drawChannel(x0: number, thickness: number) → void

Walk a jagged channel down the shaft from above the frame, then hang two forks off it. The walk is bounded to a little wider than the playfield so a strike announced at `boltX` is a strike you can actually see there.

argtypedescription
x0number
thicknessnumber

hideChannel( ) → void

thinChannel(power: number) → void

The channel thins as the flash decays, so the bolt burns out rather than blinking off.

strike( ) → void

updateFlash( ) → void

The flash envelope. A real discharge is a leader flash, a stutter of restrikes, then a decay — not a single ramp. This is what A.rules.flash() hands the whole game, so every surface flickers on the same curve.

updateWind(dt: number) → void

Throw the strike-channel geometry away and build it again, for when the channel's shape has changed under a live scene.
