The mark the face-plate's beam leaves on a plot once the bloom has hissed off it — a ragged disc of soot and pale ash with embers still alive in the cracks.
It is a stain, so it shades itself: it reads the sun's colour and intensity and
the ambient off FragmentData and multiplies the soot by them, which keeps the
mark sitting in whatever light the hillside is under without the engine lighting
a card that has no volume. Nothing else it draws is lit — the ember term is
added on top and goes out as the mark cools.
| lane | x | y | z | w |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | opacity 0..1 | cool 0..1 (0 just burnt, 1 cold) | seed | spare |
| 1 | plot centre x | plot centre y | plot centre z | plot half-width |
The disc's boundary is inner..outer in plot half-widths, displaced by
ragged × fbm noise, so no two marks are the same circle. opacity fades the
whole card, which is what lets the mark arrive over a second rather than
appearing between frames.
