What it does

Lamplighter

The hero's hands. It sits on the local player's body and is what turns the Lamplighter's controls into movement, four abilities, damage and death.

What it does

  • Walks. It reads move from inputMaps.lamplighter, projects it against the camera the player is looking through, and writes the result onto the standard CharacterController bus. The controller keeps every collision, step and slope rule it already has, so the same code walks the builtin humanoid and the rigged Lamplighter avatar.
  • Strike — a fast arc in front of the hero, with a short forward step that also turns the body toward the blow.
  • Cleave — a ring that takes everything standing around the hero.
  • Flare — a dash that carries the hero through a gap and leaves a burst of lantern light behind, staggering what it passes.
  • Flask — one of three charges, spent for health.
  • Aim. A mouse aims by the cursor's point on the floor. A pad or a thumb has no cursor, so the aim falls to the nearest registered enemy inside the ability's reach, and then to the direction the hero is already walking.
  • Being hit. The hero registers with the damage router as "hero", and a blow inside the invulnerability window after the last one is refused. Zero health hands the run to the death phase.
  • Where the hero is. Every tick it tells Hollow which chamber the hero stands in, so everything else can key off "chamberEntered".
  • Sound and animation. Every ability plays its name through Hollow.sound.play, footsteps are paced by ground covered rather than by a timer, and each Hollow.HERO_CLIPS entry plays through one AnimOverlay whose clip is re-pointed before it fires.

Reaching it from elsewhere

local hero = entity(Hollow.hero.id).component.get("hero.Lamplighter")
hero:ability("cleave") -- as though the control had been pressed
hero:heroState() -- cooldowns, invulnerability, aim, whether a dash owns the body

Fields

FieldWhat it means
inputMapThe scheme the hero answers to. The body's CharacterController is pointed at the same map.
lungeSpeedMetres per second the body steps forward on a Strike or a Cleave.
aimAssistRangeMultiplier on an ability's range inside which the nearest enemy is taken as the aim.
stepDistanceMetres of ground between one footstep sound and the next.

The effect materials beside it

fx_ember, fx_verdigris and fx_moon are the three emissive surfaces the ability effects are drawn on: the lantern's fire, the hammer's bronze, and the cold light the flare leaves in the air.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

Lamplighter.component — the hero's hands. Lives on the local player's body. It answers `inputMaps.lamplighter`, drives the body through the standard CharacterController bus, runs the four abilities with their cooldowns, aim, hits, effects and sounds, keeps the hero's damageable registration and hurt/invulnerability/death, and tells Hollow which chamber the hero stands in. Movement is the CharacterController's own: this component points that controller at the Lamplighter map, so the engine does the camera projection, and only overrides the bus while a dash or an attack lunge owns the body. That is what makes the same code work on the builtin humanoid it has today and on the rigged avatar the hero-asset slice ships.

ModelLight

isGround(name: string) → boolean

The ground the crypt is walked on. A probe that counted these would read every standing position as blocked.

argtypedescription
namestring

freeTheBody(e: ?, p: ?) → void

Lift the body out of whatever it is standing inside. A character capsule pressed into masonry stops answering the movement bus in every direction — including back the way it came — so the way out is to place it somewhere clear. Sixteen bearings are tried at a widening radius and the first standing room found wins, which is both an escape from a wall the crowd pushed the Lamplighter into and a way off the corner of a plinth.

cameraBasis( ) → void

The active viewport camera's forward and right, flattened onto the floor, as (fwdX, fwdZ, rightX, rightZ). Screen-up is the camera's forward, so a stick pushed away from the player walks into the frame whatever the staging slice has done to the rig. Falls back to the world basis the crypt is laid out on: forward -Z, right +X.

cooldownScale( ) → number

damageOf(kind: string) → number

The damage a hit carries: the relic-modified strike number is the hero's damage stat, and the heavier abilities take that same bonus on their base.

The effect entities this component spawns, and the frame that ages them.

Animation: one overlay whose clip is re-pointed before each trigger, so every HERO_CLIPS identity the hero-asset slice ships plays without this component owning six components.
