What it does

bridges

Optional links to other kits. saveKit names none of them, so installing saveKit brings none of them along. A game links a kit by passing it in its setup:

Save.setup({ kits = { trapline = require("Trapline.api"), scoreKit = require("scoreKit.core"), pickups = require("pickupsKit.api") } })
  • Trapline: reaching a checkpoint calls Save.checkpoint; losing a life calls Save.died.
  • scoreKit: points awarded become XP (10% by default, bridges.scoreToXp).
  • pickupsKit: XP orbs give their XP, coins count through Save.coin.

Each event is acted on only by the machine of the player it belongs to. start(Save, cfg, kits) connects the kit modules passed in (never one that was not), stop(name?) disconnects one or all, active reports which are connected, available which of the three are installed (checked with asset.exists, which loads nothing and records no dependency), failures the modules that were passed in but are not the kit they were passed as (each is tried once, with one warning), and reset disconnects and forgets those failures. canonical turns any spelling of a kit name into trapline, scoreKit or pickups. The _trapline, _score, _pickup handlers and _wire are exposed for tests.

Internal: Save.setup and the SaveHost component call start. Games turn a linked kit off with Save.setup({ kits = { scoreKit = false } }) or bridges = { scoreKit = false }.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

saveKit.bridges: optional links to other kits. saveKit names no other kit anywhere, so installing it brings none of them. A game that has a kit hands it to saveKit in its setup, and only then does that link switch on: Save.setup({ kits = { trapline = require("Trapline.api"), scoreKit = require("scoreKit.core"), pickups = require("pickupsKit.api") } }) Trapline: reaching a checkpoint saves (Save.checkpoint) and losing a life counts as a death (Save.died). scoreKit: points scored become XP (10% by default). pickupsKit: XP orbs give their XP, coins count as coins. Each event is acted on only by the machine of the player it belongs to.

canonical(name: any) → string

A kit's name as saveKit uses it: "trapline", "scoreKit" or "pickups" (any case; Trapline, scoreKit, score, pickupsKit and pickups are accepted). Nil for anything else.

_trapline(Save: any, evt: string, payload: any) → boolean

Handle one Trapline event (exposed for tests). evt = "checkpoint" | "lifeLost"; payload as Trapline sends it ({ player, checkpoint, label, first } / { player, livesLeft }).

_score(Save: any, localKey: string?, ev: any, ratio: number) → number

Handle one scoreKit `award` event (exposed for tests). Points become XP at `ratio`, keeping fractions between awards. Returns XP given.

_pickup(Save: any, localKey: string?, ev: any) → string

Handle one pickupsKit `collect` event (exposed for tests). XP orbs give their amount as XP; coins count as Save.coin. Returns "xp", "coin" or nil.

start(Save: any, cfg: any?, kits: any?) → any

Connect the kits the game passed in (kits = { trapline?, scoreKit?, pickups? } of module tables) that are not connected yet; cfg = Save.config().bridges (a kit set to false there stays off). A kit not passed in is never connected, installed or not. Returns active().

stop(name: string?) → void

Disconnect one kit, or every kit when name is nil (failures are kept).

reset( ) → void

Disconnect every kit and forget which failed, so the next start() tries them again. The host calls it when play starts.

active( ) → any

Which kits are connected: { trapline = bool, scoreKit = bool, pickups = bool }. Only a kit the game passed in can be connected.

available( ) → any

Which kits are installed in this world (whether or not the game passed them in): { trapline, scoreKit, pickups }. Asks without loading them or recording them as dependencies.

failures( ) → any

Kits passed in that could not be connected this session, with why: { [kit] = reason }.
