What it does

ui.journal.df_roster

The book's own printed index of the thirteen — name, binomial, reach, the depths each is printed as keeping, and a caption for the book's own plate.

A field guide is printed before the naturalist sails; what fills in at sea is the record of what was actually seen. So the journal draws its pages from this index, and every fact in it is replaced, field by field, by a species module's own spec the moment that module registers itself. The species facts belong to the fauna slices; this exists so the book is a complete object while they land.

df_roster — the book's own index of the thirteen. A field guide is printed before the naturalist sails: the plates and the binomials are already in it, and what fills in at sea is the record of what was actually seen. So the journal draws its pages from this index — name, binomial, stratum, the depths the animal is printed as keeping — and every one of those facts is REPLACED, field by field, by the species module's own spec the moment that module registers itself. The caption under each entry is the caption to the book's own plate in `df_plates`. A species module's `silhouette` / `motion` / `response` strings always win over it; where a module has not landed, the entry reads as a printed page whose field notes have not been taken yet, which is exactly what it is. Slice owner: journal. The species facts themselves are the fauna slices'.

idFromModule(path: string) → string

The id a `Core.SPECIES_MODULES` path ends in — "fauna.upper.df_sp_moonjelly" names the species "moonjelly".
