What it does

strings

The string tables behind every word the menus draw: English (en), Brazilian Portuguese (pt-BR) and Spanish (es). It provides t(key, vars) with {var} substitution and inline { en = ..., es = ... } tables, number (thousands grouped the language's way), setLanguage / resolve (with "pt" -> "pt-BR" and English fallback), register to add a language, and keys to list what a translator must cover.

Every other kit module calls it. Games use menus.text, menus.setLanguage and menus.addLanguage.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

strict

language( ) → string

The language strings are drawn in now (a tag such as "en", "pt-BR", "es").

setLanguage(tag: string) → string

Draw strings in `tag`. An unknown tag falls back to the language it truncates to ("pt" -> "pt-BR"), then to English. Returns the tag in force.

argtypedescription
tagstring

resolve(tag: string?) → string

Map any language tag to the closest one with a string table.

argtypedescription
tagstring?

languages( ) → void

Every language with a string table: { { tag, name } } in picker order.

register(tag: string, name: string?, strings: { [string]: string }) → void

Add (or extend) a language. `strings` maps keys to text; keys a game adds for its own screens work the same way.

namestring?
strings{ [string]: string }

has(key: string, tag: string?) → boolean

Whether a key has text in `tag` (default: the current language).

tagstring?

fill(s: string, vars: { [string]: any }?) → string

argtypedescription
sstring
vars{ [string]: any }?

t(key: any, vars: { [string]: any }?) → string

Text for `key` in the current language, `{name}` placeholders filled from `vars`. A table `{ en = "...", ["pt-BR"] = "..." }` is accepted in place of a key, so a game can pass its own translated text inline.

argtypedescription
keyany
vars{ [string]: any }?

number(n: any, decimals: number?) → string

`n` written the current language's way, thousands grouped: 12040 reads "12,040" in English and "12.040" in Portuguese and Spanish. `decimals` (default 0) fixes the places. A non-number passes through as text.

argtypedescription
nany
decimalsnumber?

keys( ) → void

Every key the English table defines (what a translator must cover).
