What it does

GroundTerrain

Put beside the engine's Terrain component on a landscape painted with groundMaterials surfaces. It builds the engine's splat surface with smoothness 1, so every layer keeps its own roughness (the Terrain component alone shades all layers at roughness 0.95 to 1), puts it on the landscape's Model and keeps it there whenever the Terrain rebuilds. Fields: smoothness (1), heightBlend (8), sharpen (1). Local to each machine; nothing is sent over the network.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

GroundTerrain (groundMaterials 1.0.4): put this beside the engine's `Terrain` component on a landscape painted with groundMaterials surfaces, and the ground is shaded with each layer's own roughness. local e = entity.spawn("Landscape") e.component.add("Terrain", { terrain = myLandscape }) e.component.add("GroundTerrain", {}) Why it is needed: the Terrain component builds its splat surface with a fixed `smoothness` of 0.05, so every layer reads as roughness 0.95-1 whatever its mask says, and wet mud, wet sand and ice would look as dull as dry dirt and ash. This component builds the same engine surface (`terrainSurface.forLandscape`) with `smoothness = 1`, so roughness is exactly each layer's own (1 - the mask's smoothness channel), and puts it on the landscape's Model. It rebuilds whenever the Terrain rebuilds its ground (a re-bake, a reload). Nothing is shared over the network: every peer builds the same surface for itself, because every peer runs the scene's own Terrain and this component beside it.
