What it does

film

One-paragraph description of what this module provides and who consumes it.

Exports

  • M.exampleFn(arg) -> result — what it does and when to call it.
  • M.exampleValue: type — what value it carries.

Usage

local M = require("@<youridentity>::modules.film")
M.exampleFn("foo")

Notes

  • Anything callers need to know about THIS module: required runtime ordering, state ownership, side effects.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

ffe.film — the demo's shared constants, its shot list, and its clock. FIRE FOR EFFECT. A battery of four heavy howitzers on an alpine snow saddle at 3,400 m, above an unbroken cloud deck that fills the valley. Late afternoon, low gold sun. The battery registers one round, corrects, then fires for effect. By the last shot the deck is torn into burning holes and the light in the frame comes up from below as much as down from the sun. EVERY slice reads this file. NOBODY writes it except the plan agent. THE CLOCK, in one paragraph: the film runs on a FIXED step of 1/24 s advanced exactly once per rendered frame by the FilmDirector component, so the same frame index always produces the same picture and the recording phase can run it twice and get the same film. Nothing else may advance it, and no slice may read wall time — read `Film.time()`.

shared( ) → void

time( ) → number

Current film time in seconds.

frame( ) → number

Current film frame index (0-based).

isPlaying( ) → boolean

play( ) → void

Start (or resume) the film from wherever the clock stands.

hold( ) → void

restart( ) → void

Rewind to frame 0 and run. THIS is what the recording phase calls.

seek(t: number) → void

Park the clock on an exact frame without running. For authoring one shot.

argtypedescription
tnumber

step( ) → void

Advance one fixed step. ONLY FilmDirector calls this.

gunPosition(n: number) → void

Gun n (1..4) stands here. Gun 2 is the hero gun — shots 3, 4, 5, 15.

argtypedescription
nnumber

ruin(t: number) → number

0 at the top of the film, 1 at the end: how torn and how underlit the deck is, how sooted the snow is, how much smoke is in the air. Every slice that has an "after" state rides THIS number so the whole film changes together.

argtypedescription
tnumber

shotAt(t: number) → void

The shot holding film time `t`, and how far into it we are (seconds and 0..1).

argtypedescription
tnumber

inShot(t: number, n: number) → boolean

True for exactly the window of shot n.

argtypedescription
tnumber
nnumber

filmRoot( ) → void

Building and driving. FilmDirector calls these two and nothing else does.

slice(id: string) → void

argtypedescription
idstring

build( ) → void

Re-require every slice and (re)build its content under FilmRoot. Safe to call any number of times: every slice's build() is required to be re-entrant, because this world is shared and geometry does get deleted out from under a running take.

drive( ) → void

One rendered frame of film. Advances the fixed clock when running, then hands FILM time to every slice.
