What it does

gv — Gumdrop Vale's shared contract

require("gv") from anywhere in this world.

The one module every build slice codes against. It holds three things and nothing else:

  1. TUNING and PALETTE — every number and every colour in the game. Tune here; the whole game follows.
  2. state — live game state. The BLOOM slice is the only writer; VALE and CONFECTION read it and never cache it.
  3. The event bus — on / off / emit. How the slices talk without requiring each other. BLOOM emits; the other two subscribe.

Plus the world helpers the slices need to reach the scene without owning it: terrainId, groundHeight, randomGroundPoint, flatDistance, mixColor, bloomFraction.

Slice boot

SLICES = { "bloom", "vale", "confection" }. Each is one root module returning { start, stop }. bootSlices() starts every slice that exists and skips the ones that do not, so the three land in any order. shutdownSlices() stops them. The scene entrypoint calls both.

stop() must cancel every task handle the slice created.

Ownership

This file and scenes/main.scene/ are the plan agent's. A slice that needs a new tuning value or a new event says so in its report rather than editing here — a concurrent edit breaks the other two.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

resetListeners( ) → void

Drops every subscription. Called by the scene entrypoint on reload so a hot-reloaded component does not double-subscribe.

terrainId( ) → string

The terrain entity's live id. terrainSystem's `target` takes an id or a proxy and REFUSES a name, so resolve once and hand the id around. Returns nil before the terrain exists.

groundHeight(x: number, z: number) → number

Ground height in metres at world (x, z). Falls back to 0 when the terrain has not materialised yet, so a caller never has to nil-check.

argtypedescription
xnumber
znumber

randomGroundPoint(minEdge: number?) → void

Uniformly-ish random point inside the vale, at least `minEdge` metres from the border. Returns x, y, z with y already on the ground.

argtypedescription
minEdgenumber?

flatDistance(ax: number, az: number, bx: number, bz: number) → number

Distance on the XZ plane. Used everywhere; keep it here so radius checks across slices agree.

argtypedescription
axnumber
aznumber
bxnumber
bznumber

mixColor(a: { number }, b: { number }, t: number) → void

Colour lerp helper over PALETTE entries. t=0 -> a, t=1 -> b.

argtypedescription
a{ number }
b{ number }
tnumber

bloomFraction( ) → number

How bloomed the world is, 0..1. VALE drives global sky/fog/palette from this; CONFECTION shows it on the HUD.

moduleExists(name: string) → boolean

True when a module of this identity is in the asset index. Checked BEFORE require so an absent slice costs a lookup, not a logged Lua error — three agents landing in any order should see a clean log.

namestring

bootSlices( ) → void

shutdownSlices( ) → void

resetState( ) → void

Puts STATE back to a fresh run. BLOOM calls this when a run restarts.

setPhase(phase: string) → void

Sets phase and emits phaseChanged. BLOOM is the only caller.
