What it does

ovation.film

The shared spine of Standing Ovation — a 90-second cinematic demo set in a rotting 1,412-seat theatre. Two things live here and nothing else.

The constants

The Odeon Marisol's geometry (Film.GEO, Film.rakeY, Film.stallSeat, Film.balconySeat), its palette (Film.PALETTE), its four light sources (Film.LIGHTS), its acts (Film.ACTS) and its shot list (Film.SHOTS). Every slice of the demo reads its colours and dimensions from here rather than restating them, because two slices disagreeing about where row A stands breaks the film in a way no screenshot explains.

The film clock

One deterministic timeline the whole demo runs on. It advances a fixed 1/24 s per rendered frame — it reads no wall time and no real frame delta, so the same build produces the same 2,160 frames on any machine, under a recorder or without one.

local Film = require("ovation.film")

Film.rewind()   -- every reset hook fires, every cue re-arms, t = 0
Film.play() -- the Director advances it from the next rendered frame

Film.on("mine", function(t, dt, shot) end) -- called every frame
Film.at(47.0, "cue", function() end) -- once, as the clock crosses 47 s
Film.reset("mine", function() end)           -- back to the t = 0 state

Film.stop() freezes it with the frame still composed. Film.seek(t) lands on a moment for authoring and does not fire the cues in between.

Film.ramp, Film.smooth and Film.wave are the shared shaping helpers: this film is made of waves crossing 1,412 identical figures.

Only ovation.director calls Film.tick.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

strict

rakeY(z: number) → number

Foot height of the house floor at depth z. Flat in front of row A, raked behind.

argtypedescription
znumber

stallSeat(r: number, s: number) → void

Foot point of seat `s` (1..46, house left to house right) in stalls row `r` (1..26, A = 1). Returns x, y, z.

argtypedescription
rnumber
snumber

balconySeat(r: number, s: number) → void

Foot point of balcony seat `s` (1..36) in balcony row `r` (1..6).

argtypedescription
rnumber
snumber

shotAt(t: number) → void

Which shot holds film time `t`, and where inside it. Clamped at both ends.

argtypedescription
tnumber

on(name: string, fn: (number, number, any) → void

Register a per-frame subscriber. Re-registering the same name replaces it.

argtypedescription
namestring
fn(number, number, any

off(name: string) → void

argtypedescription
namestring

at(t: number, name: string, run: () → void

Register a one-shot cue at film time `t`. Replaces any cue of the same name.

argtypedescription
tnumber
namestring
run(

reset(name: string, fn: () → void

Register the hook that puts your slice back to its t = 0 state.

argtypedescription
namestring
fn(

rewind( ) → void

play( ) → void

stop( ) → void

isPlaying( ) → boolean

time( ) → number

frameNumber( ) → number

seek(t: number) → void

Land on a moment without running the clock through it. Cues behind the new time are marked fired and never run. Authoring only.

argtypedescription
tnumber

dispatch( ) → void

Push the current time at every subscriber without advancing. rewind/seek call it so a frozen frame is still fully composed.

tick( ) → boolean

ONE rendered frame of film. The Director calls this; nothing else does. Returns false once the film has played out.

ramp(t: number, t0: number, t1: number) → number

The film is made of things happening in WAVES across 1,412 identical figures, so the ramp is stated once rather than reinvented per slice.

tnumber
t0number
t1number

smooth(x: number) → number

argtypedescription
xnumber

wave(t: number, t0: number, t1: number, z: number, zEnd: number, soft: number) → number

A front-to-back wave: 0..1 for something at depth `z`, given a front that leaves the stage at `t0` and reaches `zEnd` at `t1`, with `soft` metres of falloff so the edge of the wave is a band rather than a line.
