Quenchyard

What it does

Quenchyard

The Quench-Basin, and the grade that travels with the fight.

Builds the place under arena_root: the 22m disc of black vitrified glass with cooled slag under it, the bronze rim it was poured into, the wet stone apron, a ring of broken bronze pillars, seven 34m foundry columns, a broken wall, the vault overhead with its ribs and hoppers, the snapped ends of the hanging chain, and the slag rubble.

It also owns the light. The four named scene lights (key_light, rim_light, fill_light, ambient_light) are graded from here, the slag under the floor and the cold lamps on the columns are its own point lights, and the medium — HeightFog plus VolumetricLighting — and the basin_grade post-process pass are driven from the same look table.

Three looks, one per phase, interpolated over blendTime seconds when phase:changed arrives: cold blue and steam while the saint is bound, ember and airborne particulate once it stands, and a lit floor under a cracked plate by the time the chest is open. The floor and rubble swap material at the break rather than fading, because the glass cracking open is the beat.

Quenchyard — the Quench-Basin itself, and the grade that travels with the fight. The arena slice's director. It builds the place under `arena_root` (the basin of black vitrified glass, the bronze lip, the broken pillars, the snapped chain, the vault overhead, the slag rubble), owns the four named scene lights, and drives the medium — height fog, volumetric scattering and the colour grade — from `phase:changed`. Phase 1 is cold, wet and blue. Phase 3 is an ember storm over a cracked glowing floor. Everything between is one interpolation, run over `blendTime` seconds so a phase break reads as the room changing rather than as a cut. BattleBoot attaches this to `arena_root`. Nothing else writes these entities.

buildVault(root: any, mats: any, rand: () → void

The vault. Underground is the whole premise, so the up-look has to land on stone rather than on sky. The vault, the ribs and the hoppers cast NO shadow. They are the room's ceiling and the key light is a directional sun: left casting, the vault puts the entire basin in shadow and every surface below it goes black.

buildAir(root: any) → void

The medium and the three named directional lights the arena owns. Rim and fill are DirectionalLight components rather than a second `Light` of kind "directional", because the sun is a single field: two `Light`s of that kind move the same sun instead of joining it.

darkenSky( ) → void

The room is underground. The scene's sky is a starfield; put it out.

clearBuild(root: any) → void

Everything under `arena_root` that this component put there, gone. The scene's own `basin_floor` (the physics surface) is left where it is.

startClock( ) → void

The room's own clock. The phase blend and the chain sway need a heartbeat, and neither `update` nor `editorUpdate` is dispatched on this component (`status().ticks` stayed at 0 across seconds of unpaused play with both declared — #8896). So the room runs its own loop, keyed on a generation counter that `awake` bumps and `onDestroy` clears, which is also what stops a hot reload leaving two of them running.

status( ) → void

What the arena currently is: how much of it exists, what look is pushed, and whether the medium and the grade are actually running.

preview(phase: number, immediate: boolean?) → void

Force the room to a phase's look without waiting for the boss to get there. The way to see phase 3 while phase 1 is being built.

rebuild( ) → void

Rebuild the geometry from the current seed. Use after changing `seed`.

# basin_grade The colour grade for SLAG SAINT, and the one pass that knows the frame is 1080x1440. Exposure, shadow lift, contrast about the 18% pivot, a filmic roll-off, saturation, a heat wash rising into the bottom of the tall frame, a vignette squeezed on the long axis, grain and lens aberration. The arena slice drives every property from `phase:changed`.
