Atmosphere.sceneModule

The room the machine stands in, and every light in the scene.

What it does

Atmosphere

The room the machine stands in, and every light in the scene.

The scene ships no lighting of its own. This module is the whole of it: the key light down the tower shaft, the cold fill, the bounce, the ambient term, the sky, eight coloured window shafts, six oil lamps, the air they travel through, and the camera the whole thing is photographed with.

What it builds

Everything hangs off one root, AtmosphereRoot.

GroupWhat it is
tower_shell24 wall segments, 12 ribs and two gallery ledges, standing in a ring at shellRadius. Open at the top, which is what lets the key light fall the length of the shaft.
tower_floorThe tower floor, far below the outermost gear.
tower_dialA clock face the size of the tower, laid into that floor — twelve hour marks and a kerb ring.
tower_glazingEight bays: a great window, its iron tracery, a clerestory above it, and the spot light standing behind the glass that throws the bay's shaft across the machine.
tower_lampsSix oil lamps on brackets off the lower gallery — near-field specular, so the brass carries moving highlights instead of one flat sheen.
key_light / fill_light / bounce_light / ambient_lightThe scene's light. key_light is the sun and carries the cascade shadows.
tower_skyDeep dusk, seen only straight up the shaft — and the reflection-probe fallback.
tower_airThe medium the light scatters in, which is what makes the shafts visible.
tower_dustMotes hanging in the shafts.
tower_cameraAmbient occlusion, edge antialiasing and the lens.

Why the tower is segments and not a cylinder

A cylinder primitive is capped. A cap over the machine seals the shaft, the sun reaches nothing, and the interior renders black. A ring of segments leaves the top open, and the gap between the ribs is what cuts the falling light into bands.

Why the room exists at all

Brass is metal, and metal renders what it reflects. Until something is captured into the reflection-probe slot, a metallic surface has only the ambient term to draw on and reads as a dark disc. So the last thing this module does is capture the finished room into probe slot 0 and the sky into the fallback — that capture is what makes the board's brass read as brass.

Inputs

InputDefaultWhat it does
sunIntensity3.6The key light down the shaft. Everything else is balanced against it.
shellRadius43Inner radius of the tower wall. The commander camera orbits inside this — raise it before moving the camera further out.
dusttrueMotes hanging in the shafts.
airDensity0.13The medium the light travels through. 0 empties the air, and the far wall then reads at the same contrast as the near gear.

What it does not own

The board — the gear rings, the platforms, the escapement column — is Machine.sceneModule's. This module lights it and builds the room around it, and never spawns anything inside shellRadius at board height.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

game/Atmosphere.sceneModule — the light, the air and the tower around it. OWNED BY THE "atmosphere" SLICE. The scene's build.luau places exactly one of these, named "Atmosphere", and never changes again. Everything that makes the machine look like it sits inside a colossal clock tower belongs here: the lighting rig, the stained glass and the coloured shafts through it, dust in the air, the tower shell, and the far machinery turning behind the fight. The scene ships NO lighting of its own — if this file is empty, the world is black. The board itself is Machine.sceneModule's; this file lights it and builds the room it stands in. The shape of the room, and why it is that shape: * The tower is a RING OF WALL SEGMENTS, not a cylinder mesh. A cylinder primitive is capped, and a cap over the machine seals the shaft — the sun then reaches nothing and the whole interior renders black. Segments leave the top open, which is what lets a single steep key light fall the length of the shaft and land on the board. * Everything stands INSIDE `shellRadius`, and the commander camera orbits at about 30 units, so the wall closes behind the board from every angle the player can take. * Brass is metal, and metal renders what it reflects. The tower therefore exists partly so the board has something to mirror: the wall, the glass and the lamps are captured into the reflection-probe slot once the room is standing, and every metallic surface on the board reads them.
