What it does

Rules

Patapon's shared constants and rules, required by every gameplay slice as require("game.Rules"): tempo and timing windows, the four drum commands and matchCommand, unit/enemy/fortress tuning, the palette, the shared state table, and a small event bus (on / emit) the Rhythm, Battle and Hud components talk over. See /zero/source/design/spec.md.

Interface

game/Rules.module — Patapon's shared constants, rules and event bus. Every slice requires this one module: `local R = require("game.Rules")`. It owns no entities. It holds: * the tuning numbers (tempo, timing windows, unit stats, palette) * the four drum commands and the parser that matches a 4-drum measure * R.state — the one shared game state table every slice reads * a tiny event bus (R.on / R.emit) the slices talk over Ownership of R.state fields (only the owner writes, everyone reads): phase Hud (title -> playing), Battle (playing -> won / lost) beat, measure, beatTime, beatPhase, inputMeasure, combo, fever, command, commandMeasure, drums Rhythm cameraX, armyX, fortressHp, fortressMaxHp, armyHp, armyMaxHp, unitsAlive, enemiesAlive Battle

matchCommand(drums: { string }) → string

Match a list of drum names against the four commands.

argtypedescription
drums{ string }Drum names in the order struck, e.g. { "PATA","PATA","PATA","PON" }.

examples

R.matchCommand({ "PON","PON","PATA","PON" }) --> "attack"

drumForKey(key: string) → string

Find the drum a key code strikes.

argtypedescription
keystringA key code such as "KeyF" or "ArrowLeft".

resetState(phase: string) → void

Put R.state back to a fresh game (keeps phase as given).

argtypedescription
phasestringThe phase to enter, normally "playing" or "title".

on(name: string, fn: (any) → void

Subscribe to a bus event. Returns an unsubscribe function.

argtypedescription
namestringEvent name.
fn(anyHandler receiving the payload table.

examples

local off = R.on("beat", function(p) print(p.beat) end)

emit(name: string, payload: any?) → void

Fire a bus event to every subscriber. A failing handler is logged, not propagated.

argtypedescription
namestringEvent name.
payloadany?Payload table.

setPhase(phase: string) → void

Set the game phase and announce it on the bus.

argtypedescription
phasestring"title" | "playing" | "won" | "lost".
