What it does

pad_moth (material)

The sugar moths. 85 cm of pale translucent wing on a 15 m wandering orbit, with a wingbeat that opens and closes the span so a moth is never still even while it hovers. catch_r and catch_t0 are the updraught: in act three every moth inside that radius of the mesa's axis is lifted and spun into the rising column. cell must match POPS.pad_moths.cell in @user::pad.astral.

# pad_moth The sugar moths. The mesh is a lattice of degenerate quads; each cell hashes into one moth with its own home over the archipelago, its own wandering orbit, its own roll and its own wingbeat — the quad's span opens and closes on the beat, so a moth is never still even when it is hovering. The wing is drawn as two scalloped lobes and a thread of body, brightest where it is thinnest, which is what makes it read as translucent sugar against the nebula in shot 8. `column` is `film.column(t)`: in act three the updraught catches every moth inside `catch_r` of the mesa's axis, lifts it and spins it into the rising matter, which is the spiral shot 10 asks for.
