Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

Railhead: Dust Sea — procedural sound bank. Every cue in the game is synthesised here from first principles, encoded straight to the engine's ZAUD payload, and written as a `.soundClip` asset. Nothing is sampled or downloaded, so the whole sound design ships inside the world and stays editable as code. Baking writes to `/source`, which is locked while the world is playing, so `M.bake()` is an EDIT-mode operation. Gameplay only ever calls `M.play`.

rng(seed: number) → void

Deterministic noise so a re-bake produces byte-identical clips.

argtypedescription
seednumber

lp(a: number) → void

One-pole lowpass. `a` in (0,1]; smaller = darker.

argtypedescription
anumber

hp(a: number) → void

One-pole highpass built from its complementary lowpass.

argtypedescription
anumber

svf(f: number, q: number) → void

Resonant bandpass (state-variable). `f` Hz, `q` resonance.

argtypedescription
fnumber
qnumber

softclip(x: number) → number

argtypedescription
xnumber

decay(t: number, tau: number) → number

Exponential decay envelope.

ad(t: number, atk: number, tau: number) → number

Attack/decay envelope.

atknumber
taunumber

osc( ) → void

Sine that keeps its own phase so frequency can sweep without clicking.

sawOsc( ) → void

Bandlimited-ish saw from the same phase accumulator.

write(out: buffer, i: number, v: number) → void

argtypedescription
outbuffer
inumber
vnumber

fire(out: ?, n: ?) → void

The shot. A hypervelocity rail discharge: an electrical crack that arrives first, the muzzle blast under it, and a sub-bass thump that carries.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

whine(out: ?, n: ?) → void

Capacitor whine while charging. Loops seamlessly; playback pitch rises with the charge level, so the pitch here is only the floor of the ramp.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

clunk(out: ?, n: ?) → void

The breech arming: a heavy metal clunk with a servo tail.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

sizzle(out: ?, n: ?) → void

Tracer sizzle — the ionised trail hissing as it recedes. Looped, with the doppler applied at playback via pitch.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

thud(out: ?, n: ?) → void

The impact, heard seconds after the flash. Mostly sub and rubble.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

shriek(out: ?, n: ?) → void

A machine dying: a resonant scream collapsing into scrap.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

beep(out: ?, n: ?) → void

Heat alarm: one short blip. Repeated by the game as the redline nears.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

klaxon(out: ?, n: ?) → void

Overheat klaxon: two-tone, harsh, unmistakable.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

vent(out: ?, n: ?) → void

Coolant purge: a pressurised hiss with a valve crack at the front.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

wind(out: ?, n: ?) → void

Canyon wind. Long loop, brown noise with a slow gust envelope.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

horn(out: ?, n: ?) → void

Wave horn: a huge low brass stack rolling across the canyon.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

drone(out: ?, n: ?) → void

The boss: a subsonic drone with slow beating partials.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

victory(out: ?, n: ?) → void

Victory: a wide open chord with a long tail.

argtypedescription

Rangefinder return.

argtypedescription

click(out: ?, n: ?) → void

UI click.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

hit(out: ?, n: ?) → void

Hit confirm: a clean bell so a connect reads over the noise.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

incoming(out: ?, n: ?) → void

An incoming mortar shell: descending whistle into the arrival.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

crack(out: ?, n: ?) → void

The battery taking a hit: armour crack plus scope glass.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

debris(out: ?, n: ?) → void

Rubble settling after an impact.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

ready(out: ?, n: ?) → void

Capacitor reaching full: a short rising two-tone.

argtypedescription
out?
n?

nearmiss(out: ?, n: ?) → void

The slug arriving at the battery's own position — a near miss overhead.

argtypedescription

clipIdentity(name: string) → string

argtypedescription
namestring

render(name: string) → void

Synthesise one cue and return its ZAUD payload.

argtypedescription

bake(force: boolean?) → void

Bake every cue to a `.soundClip` asset. EDIT MODE ONLY — `/source` is write-locked while the world plays, so a bake during play is shadowed and lost. Returns a per-cue report.

argtypedescription
forceboolean?

attach(parentId: string) → void

Attach the sound bank to `parentId`. Idempotent.

argtypedescription

play(name: string, opts: { volume: number?, pitch: number? }?) → void

Fire a one-shot. `opts` takes `volume` and `pitch`.

opts{ volume: number?, pitch: number? }?

loop(name: string, on: boolean, opts: { volume: number?, pitch: number? }?) → void

Start or stop a looping cue (whine, wind, drone, klaxon).

# RhAssets Every material and sound clip **Railhead: Dust Sea** touches, resolved through a static identity literal. ```luau local Assets = require("RhAssets") Assets.material("rh_barrel") -- an AssetRef<material> Assets.clip("fire") -- an AssetRef<soundClip> ``` ## Why this exists A computed reference — `asset.ref(someVariable)` — cannot be pinned at publish time. The reference is invisible to the world's dependency graph, and there is no guarantee it resolves once the world is installed somewhere else, so the publish gate refuses it. That is a real constraint, not a formality: `RhFx.setModel` and `RhProps.part` both take a material name as an argument, and `RhAudio.play` takes a cue name. Those are exactly the call shapes that produce a computed ref. So the whole set is spelled out here once, each as a literal, and everything else looks up by short key. The registry is the single place that knows an asset's full identity; the rest of the game says `"rh_barrel"` and `"fire"`. ## Lazy on purpose Both tables fill on first use rather than at module load. Requiring this module early — from a component's `awake`, before the asset index has finished registering the world's own content — would otherwise fail to resolve. An unknown key warns and returns `nil` instead of raising, so a typo in an effect shows up as one missing material rather than a dead frame. ## Adding an asset Add the literal to the matching builder (`buildMaterials` or `buildClips`). For a sound cue, add it to `RhAudio.CUES` and give it a generator there too — the bake walks that table and nothing else.
