What it does

score

The film's music, synthesised and baked as one 94-second clip.

bake(force) writes chaffScore.soundClip next to the foley clips; the recipe for every voice is in init.luau, so a later pass re-derives the whole score by calling it again rather than by editing an audio file.

build(parent) / reset() / frame(t) are driven from demo.chaff.audio.sound, which owns the mix. The clip is as long as the film, so it is cued ONCE at t = 0 and never looped: its position in the file is its position in the film. A seekTo does not move it — that is the one thing to know when inspecting a single shot instead of watching the picture through.

Three movements, on the rule the foley follows: in a vacuum nothing arrives through air, so nothing here has air in it.

I0:00-0:2625 Hz hull groan beating against itself, a strobe relay every 2.4 s, and one cello harmonic as the sun-bar crosses at 0:07
II0:26-0:66the report as a hammer blow through the frame, ringing a semitone lower on each of the sixteen rounds; a granular grain bed; drone pairs beating faster as they close; eleven of them waking up a whole-tone ladder at 0:45
III0:66-0:94everything conducted stripped away, a choral pad in open fifths rising from nothing and resolving major as the visor clears at 0:88. No percussion after 0:79

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

CHAFF — the score. Ninety-four seconds in three movements, on one rule: in a vacuum you hear only what is conducted through your own suit and your own body. Nothing arrives through air, so nothing in here has air in it — no crack on a transient, no room on a tail, no top end on anything that reached the diver through steel. I (0:00-0:26) Almost silence with structure in it. The drum's tumble as a 25 Hz groan beating slowly against itself, one strobe relay clicking every 2.4 s as the only rhythm, and no pitched material at all until the sun-bar crosses at 0:07 — one sustained cello harmonic that fades as the bar passes. II (0:26-0:66) Percussive and conducted. The bolt-driver's report is a hammer blow through the frame, and what is left afterwards is the structure ringing — a semitone lower on every round, sixteen of them, so the magazine emptying IS the descent. Under it the grain becomes a wide granular bed and the drone motors a cluster of detuned pairs that beat faster as they close. The nest at 0:45 is eleven of those pairs waking one at a time up a whole-tone ladder. III(0:66-0:94) Everything conducted is stripped away layer by layer, and in that vacuum a choral pad in open fifths rises from nothing — the first sustained pitched material since the cello — and resolves major exactly as the visor clears at 0:88. No percussion after 0:79. The last four seconds are breath alone, which is the suit bed in `demo.chaff.audio.sound`, not this. Baked, not recorded, for the same reason the foley is: every voice is band-limited on purpose and the recipe is in the file. require("demo.chaff.audio.score").bake(true)

span(buf: ?, t0: number, t1: number, f: ?) → void

Add a voice over [t0, t1) by calling `f(t, i)` per sample. Nothing outside its own window is ever touched, which is what keeps a 94 s bake to a few seconds of work instead of eight full passes over three million samples.

I. The drum, conducted. Two low sines a third of a hertz apart, so the groan walks in and out of phase with itself about every three seconds.

relays(buf: ?) → void

I. The relay behind the amber beacon. A click has no crack in vacuum: it is a short body resonance with the air taken off the front of it.

celloHarmonic(buf: ?) → void

I. One cello harmonic, bowed, as the sun-bar crosses. It is the only pitched thing in the first movement and it leaves with the bar.

grainBed(buf: ?) → void

II. Grain on the visor as a wide granular bed. Noise through a one-pole pair, so it sits in a band and never gets bright enough to read as air.

hammers(buf: ?) → void

II. The report. Not a gunshot — a hammer blow through the frame, all the air taken out of it, and the structure ringing afterwards a semitone lower on every round.

II. The drones. Detuned sine pairs whose beat rate rises as they close.
