What it does

furniture

The 2026 Baltic standing in the water: an offshore wind farm, a container ship on the lane, lit channel buoys, low granite skerries and the shore beyond them.

local Furniture = require("game.sea.furniture")
Furniture.build(NPB) -- stand it all up, once
Furniture.animate(NPB, dt, now) -- one tick of everything that moves
Furniture.stop() -- entities and meshes back down

Why it exists

The play area is 1.4 km across and the sea is otherwise a plane, so whichever way the player puts the bow there has to be something at the end of it: twelve turbines to the north-east, shipping across the north, a granite coast to the west, skerries scattered through the rest, and the rift standing to the south. Steering becomes steering TOWARDS something instead of steering at a horizon.

What it stands up

Wind farm12 turbines on a grid rotated off the compass. Monopile, transition piece with its service platform, tapered tower, nacelle, and a three-blade rotor that turns. Two entities each: tower and rotor.
Container ship172 m, lofted hull with a hatch coaming, deckhouse, funnel and 117 containers in four colours. Steams the lane at 5.4 m/s and wraps. Seven entities under one root.
Channel buoysEight lateral marks, red cans and green cones with topmarks and lit lanterns, riding the real waves and leaning with the slope of the water.
SkerriesEleven, from three lathed granite meshes with boulders on their backs, three of them beaconed.
ShoreSeven overlapping masses to the west, long enough to read as one low coast.

Each prop is one merged mesh per material, and each mesh is uploaded once and shared by every copy: twelve turbines are two meshes, not twenty-four. Every handle goes into one flat list so teardown is unambiguous — a MeshHandle is itself a table, so a teardown that walks a mixed table and branches on type(v) == "table" cannot tell a group of handles from one handle.

Who consumes it

game.sea only. It reads NPB.SEA, NPB.seaHeight, NPB.seaDisplacement, NPB.transient and NPB.yaw, and owns no game state.

buildContainers(group: number) → any

Four container stacks, split by colour so each group is one mesh under one tint. Deterministic: the same ship is loaded the same way every run.

buildSkerry(seed: number, radius: number, height: number) → any

Granite A skerry is a lathe with the radius knocked about by a couple of sine terms, which gives a rock a real outline instead of a cone's. Each seed is a different rock, and one mesh is shared by every copy of that seed.

Built in UNIT space: the caller scales a rock to its size, so no distance in here may be a length in metres.

# geo A low-poly mesh builder. It accumulates flat-shaded triangles through a transform stack and hands back one runtime GPU mesh, which `Model.model` takes directly. ```lua local Geo = require("game.sea.geo") local B = Geo.builder() B:push(); B:translate(0, 44, 0); B:cylinder(0, 62, 3.0, 1.9, 14, false, true); B:pop() entity.spawn("tower").component.add("Model", { model = B:mesh(), material = "npb_paint" }) ``` Everything standing on the Baltic — a junk's hull, a wind turbine, a container ship, a skerry, the rift — is one merged mesh built this way rather than a tree of primitive entities: one draw and one component instead of thirty, and a shape made from real sections instead of a stack of boxes. ## What it provides `Geo.builder()` returns a Builder with: - **Transform stack** — `push`, `pop`, `translate`, `scale`, `rotateX/Y/Z`. Composition is parent-then-child, so a part is placed by walking to it. - **Faces** — `tri(a, b, c)`, `quad(a, b, c, d)`. Wind them so `cross(b - a, c - a)` points OUT of the solid; that vector becomes the flat normal all three vertices carry, so a normal can never disagree with the winding it came from. - **Primitives** — `box`, `cylinder` (a cone when either radius is zero, along +Y), `sphere` (faceted, so it reads as cut stone), `loft` (a run of XY cross-sections along +Z — this is what makes a hull a hull), `panel` (an extruded XY polygon), `disc`, `annulus`. - **Audit** — `triangleCount()` and `signedVolume()`. A closed solid built with outward winding has POSITIVE signed volume, which is how a new primitive is checked numerically rather than by eye. - **Output** — `mesh()` uploads everything emitted as one runtime GPU mesh and returns its `MeshHandle`. The caller owns destroying it with `renderer.mesh.destroy`. ## Who consumes it `game.sea.fleet` and `game.sea.furniture`. It holds no game state and no scene knowledge, so anything that needs geometry can use it.
