What it does

MetalBaker

The pixel toolkit the metals were baked with: seeded periodic value noise, fBm, streaks (brushed grain), Worley cells, blur and normalise, all on square fields that wrap at the edges, so every map tiles seamlessly by construction.

It also packs fields into texture bytes: sRGB albedo, an occlusion/roughness/metallic mask (glTF channel order), and a tangent-space normal map in the engine's green-up convention, scaled by the real tile size so relief depth is in metres. save writes the PNG as a texture asset next to the package's other textures.

Called by MetalRecipes when a texture set is (re)baked. Nothing calls it at runtime: installing the package ships the baked textures, so a world never runs the baker.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

strict

breathe( ) → void

Yield a frame once a bake has held the engine for 50 ms, so a long bake never freezes the editor. Where yielding is not allowed it stops trying.

rng(seed: number) → void

A deterministic random stream: rng() returns [0, 1).

Tangent-space normal map from a height field in METRES over a tile of `tile` metres. Raised areas face outward: green = image-up (OpenGL / glTF), the convention the engine reads. tiltX / tiltY (optional) add a per-texel slope on top of the height (normal-space x and image-up y), for facets such as zinc spangle crystals.
