What it does

flui

The look of First Light: The Three Fires — one place for the palette, the type scale, the ornament and the small composed pieces every card and the HUD are built out of.

local U = require("game.ui.flui")
local m = U.metrics()
U.slab(m, { U.wingedDisc(m, 300), U.display(m, "First Light", 66) })

Metrics

U.metrics() reads ui.screenSize() and returns { w, h, k, portrait, cardW, gutter }. Every size in this module comes out of it: k is a type scale that rides the SHORTER edge of the screen, so a tall phone and a wide monitor get type of the same physical weight, and the boxes are fractions with a ceiling — a card is 88% of the width but never wider than about 680. U.px(m, n) scales and rounds a design value to whole logical pixels.

What is in it

Group
PaletteNIGHT STONE INK DIM FAINT BRONZE EMBER GOLD ASH BLOOD GREEN, and SERIF / SERIF_I / MONO
OrnamentwingedDisc (the sun between two wings, the sign over an Arsacid gate), rule (a hairline with a lozenge), flame (lit or the cold outline of one), censerGlyph, sunrise
Typedisplay eyebrow body
Boxesbackdrop (a dimmed, frosted full-glass field with an optional watermark), slab (the sandstone card), choice (a row a player picks), controlHint, gauge, ring

Every glyph is drawn as inline SVG from a template rather than imported, so it takes the colour it is asked for — a flame in each fire's own tint, ornament in bronze or in an ending's accent.

Two rules the layout depends on

  • A wrapping label's width goes on its CONTAINER, and that container must not centre its children. A wrap = true label inside a box carrying alignItems = "center" collapses to one glyph per line, mid-word, however definite the box's width is. U.body is the shape that works; centre the text with textAlign.
  • A row of cells is given an explicit width, never flex = 1 alone. Cells that only grow are pushed wider than the card by the longest label in them, and a card does not clip what overflows it.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

zero/source-extract/v2

flui — the look of First Light: The Three Fires. One place for the palette, the type scale, the ornament and the small composed pieces every card and the HUD are built out of. Nothing here registers a screen or reads game state: each function takes what it needs and returns a widget tree, so a screen is assembled rather than described twice. local U = require("game.ui.flui") local m = U.metrics() -- the live canvas, in one table U.slab(m, { ... }) -- a sandstone slab centred on the glass EVERY size here comes out of `metrics()`, which reads `ui.screenSize()` each time it is called. The scale rides the SHORTER edge of the screen, so a tall phone and a wide monitor get type of the same physical weight, and the boxes are given as fractions with a ceiling — a card is 88% of the width but never wider than 640, so it is a column on a television and a full-bleed page on a phone.

fill(tpl: string, vars: { [string]: any }) → string

A long string carrying `{{name}}` holes, filled from a table. Luau's backtick interpolation is one line only, and an SVG document is not.

Round a scaled size to a whole logical pixel; text at a fractional size hints badly.

eyebrow(m: Metrics, text: string, colour: string?) → any

A letterspaced line over a heading. It wraps inside the card rather than running off both edges of it, which is what an unbounded label at this tracking does the moment the text is longer than a couple of words.

body(m: Metrics, text: string, width: number, size: number?, colour: string?) → any

A paragraph. The width goes on the CONTAINER and the container must not centre its children: a wrapping label inside a box carrying `alignItems = "center"` collapses to one glyph per line, mid-word, however definite the box's width is. Centre the text with `textAlign` instead — that is what this does.

backdrop(m: Metrics, children: { any }, tint: string?, watermark: any?) → any

A full-glass backdrop: the night, dimmed, with a bloom behind the slab so the card sits in its own light. `watermark` is a node dropped behind the card, filling the frame — the ornament a card is not big enough to carry itself, so the empty half of a tall screen is composed rather than blank.

choice(m: Metrics, id: string, text: string, focused: boolean, note: string?, delay: number?) → any

A row a player chooses: the bronze bracket, the label, and the state it is in. `focused` is what a pad lights; `:hover` is what a mouse lights; a finger taps the row itself. All three end in the same `onClick` id.

descriptionA game UI kit: palette, screen-relative type scale, drawn SVG ornament (winged disc, flame, censer, sunrise), and composed boxes — a frosted backdrop, a card slab, a focusable choice row, bar and ring gauges. Every size derives from ui.screenSize(), so one layout holds portrait and landscape.
