What it does

film

The shared constants and the film clock for DEADLIGHT. Every slice of the demo reads this module and nothing restates its numbers.

It holds three things:

  • The timing spine — the 14 shots, their durations and their windows. Film.SHOTS, Film.shotAt(t), Film.window(n), Film.movementAt(t). Durations live here and nowhere else.
  • The world contract — the shared coordinate frame (Film.WORLD), the named entities each slice owns (Film.NAMES), the submersible's contracted path (Film.SUB_PATH / Film.subPoseAt(t)), the anchor fallbacks that let the film play while it is still being built (Film.ANCHORS), the palette (Film.PALETTE) and the water's optics (Film.WATER).
  • The clock — a fixed 1/24 s step advanced once per RENDERED frame by deadlight.FilmDirector, never from wall time. 2,256 rendered frames is exactly the 94-second film, every time.
local Film = require("deadlight.film")
Film.restart()              -- t := 0, every slice resets, playing := true
Film.seek(48.0)             -- deterministic scrub to a moment
Film.status() -- where the film is and who has joined it

Film.register("abyss", {    -- join from your own component's awake()
    reset = function()          end,
    tick  = function(t, dt)     end,
    shot  = function(n, tLocal) end,
})

Handlers run inside pcall, so one slice erroring cannot stop the film for the others. Registering a name twice replaces its handlers.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

deadlight.film — the demo's shared constants and its film clock. ONE module every slice of DEADLIGHT reads. It holds three things: 1. THE TIMING SPINE — how long each of the 14 shots runs and when it starts. Nobody else decides this. A slice asks `Film.shotAt(t)` or `Film.window(n)` and lays its work against the answer. 2. THE WORLD CONTRACT — the shared coordinate frame, the named entities each slice promises to put in the scene, the palette, and the water's optical constants. Four agents build one place; this is how they agree. 3. THE CLOCK — a FIXED 1/24 s step advanced once per RENDERED frame by `FilmDirector`. Never wall time. N rendered frames is always exactly N/24 film seconds, so the recording phase can run the film twice and get the same film. HOW YOU PLAY IT, from anywhere: local Film = require("deadlight.film") Film.restart() -- t := 0, every slice's reset() runs, playing := true Film.seek(41.0) -- deterministic scrub: restart, then step to 41.0 s Film.pause() / Film.resume() HOW YOUR SLICE JOINS IT, from your own component's awake(): Film.register("abyss", { reset = function() ... end, -- put the world back at t = 0 tick = function(t, dt) ... end, -- every 1/24 s of film time shot = function(n, tLocal) ... end, -- fires once as a shot opens }) Registering the same name twice REPLACES the old handlers, so a component that re-awakes on hot-reload does not double up. Every handler runs inside pcall: one slice erroring cannot stop the film for the other three.

depthAt(t: number) → number

The depth the film claims to be at, in metres below the surface. Movement I falls; movements II and III sit on the bottom.

Advance exactly one film frame. Called by FilmDirector once per RENDERED frame — never from wall time, and never more than once a frame.

seek(t: number) → void

Deterministic scrub: run the film from 0 to `t` at the fixed step, so every slice's state is exactly what playing to `t` would have produced.
