What it does

ui/art — the look of SLAG SAINT

One place for everything the game's screens are made of, so they grade as a single object: the palette translated into CSS strings, the type ramp bound to real faces, the spacing and surface helpers, the motion, and the inline SVG that puts art on a screen instead of words alone.

Type

Three faces, three jobs, never mixed up.

rolefaceused for
displayAntontitles, verdicts, the boss's name, the saint's spoken lines
proseEBGaramond / EBGaramondItalicanything read as a sentence
readoutBerkeleyMonolabels, numbers, key caps — anything instrumental

Anton draws its caps low in the line box it is given — measured against ui.getLayoutInfo, about 0.3em below the box the layout reserved. Anywhere a display line is followed by something else, the display line carries the margin. Art.menuItem and the lockup in ui/screens already do.

Art

Art.GLYPH is the drawn material: bell (the saint's head, the game's mark), saint (the kneeling reliquary figure the title screen is built on), sigil (the order's quenching droplet), blade (the Emberward's weapon), chain, mouse, pip, motes. Each takes its colours, so the same glyph carries the cold grade on the victory card and the ember grade on the title.

Still mode

UI animation advances on game time. While the clock is stopped — edit mode, or a held session — a one-shot entrance freezes on its first keyframe, and a keyframe starting at opacity = 0 leaves the element invisible for as long as the clock is stopped. Art.setStill(true) makes every motion helper return nil, so a tree built in that state carries no animation and renders at its base style. Screens.component flips it whenever the clock starts or stops.

Two things measured in the engine, not assumed

  • A wrapping label ignores textAlign. Anything that must read as centred goes through Art.lines, which is one node per line centred by its column.
  • backdropFilter samples the scene behind the whole UI stack, not the card under it — so a frosted scrim over an opaque page punches the lit fight straight back through it. Frost only where seeing the fight is the point (pause, howto); the full-bleed cards paint their own ground instead.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

ui/art — the look of SLAG SAINT, in one place. Every screen in the game is built out of these: the palette translated into CSS strings once, the type ramp bound to real faces, the small style helpers that give the whole UI one spacing rhythm, and the inline SVG that puts art on a screen instead of words alone. The frame is 1080 x 1440 — PORTRAIT. Everything here stacks down the tall axis: nothing is a row of things spanning the width, and the only thing allowed to reach edge to edge is a hairline. local Art = require("ui.art") Art.label("EMBERWARD", Art.T.label(Art.C.boneDim))

rgba(hex: string, alpha: number) → string

`rgba(r,g,b,a)` from a `#rrggbb` string. Used everywhere a colour needs to sit at partial strength — a scrim, a glow, a hairline.

mix(a: string, b: string, t: number) → string

Linear blend between two `#rrggbb` strings. The phase grade travels the UI by mixing the phase colour into the chrome.

para(text: string, style: any?, width: any?) → any

A wrapping paragraph. The WIDTH belongs on the container, never on the label — a label carrying both `wrap` and a width collapses to one glyph per line.

lines(list: { string }, style: any?, gap: number?) → any

A block of centred prose, one node per line. A wrapping label lays its lines out from the left whatever `textAlign` says, so anything that has to read as centred is broken into lines here and centred by the column.

paint(markup: string, vars: { [string]: string }) → string

Art — inline SVG. Everything below is drawn, not typed. Written as long strings with `$name` slots so the markup stays readable; `paint` fills the slots. (An interpolated `\`...\`` string in Luau cannot carry a raw newline, which is why these are not written that way.)

escChip(id: string, text: string, tone: string?, nodeId: string?) → any

The menu affordance. A REAL button, because a button is the widget that carries a keyboard `shortcut` — so the same chip answers a click and a key, without an input map this slice does not own. The chip carries a `shortcut` of P, but the CLICK is the affordance the label promises, because the key is the half that could not be proved here: a simulated key press reaches the engine's own input (Escape flips `engine.paused`) and never reaches a widget — a focused `input` takes no text from one either — so a keyboard shortcut cannot be verified from inside the engine. Escape is spent on the engine's gameplay pause in any case. The chip therefore says MENU and means the plate.
