kit

What it does

village.kit

The vocabulary of Lanternwake, written into a village.geo builder.

Fabric: timberPanel (daub infill, then sill, head, posts, studs and corner braces on top of it — the black frame is the drawing and the pale daub is the paper), window, door, chimney.

Buildings: cottage, manor, church, mill, well.

Street: lampPost, grave, wall, fence, reeds, tree, cart, gate, coachStop.

Every piece is authored with its footprint on the origin and its ground at y = 0, so the caller pushes a position and a yaw and the piece stands there. A piece a body should not walk through appends its world-space footprint to b.solids, which the village module turns into box colliders; a piece that burns appends to b.lamps, which becomes a fog lamp uniform and a point light.

Kit.rng(seed) is the deterministic stream everything varies on. Nothing here calls math.random, which is why the village is identical on every load.

timberPanel(b: any, w: number, h: number, t: number, opts: any?) → void

Fabric pieces A half-timbered wall panel: the daub infill, then the frame on top of it — sill, head, corner posts, studs, and a pair of braces in the corners. This is the piece that makes Lanternwake read as 1888 rather than as boxes: the black frame is the drawing and the pale daub is the paper. The wall lies in the local XY plane, facing +Z, `t` thick.

window(b: any, x: number, y: number, z: number, w: number, h: number, opts: any?) → void

A window: the opening's glass, a timber surround, and a shutter hanging off one hinge. `lit` puts a mantle behind the glass.

cottage(b: any, opts: any?) → void

Buildings A fen cottage: half-timbered over a stone plinth, steep roof, one chimney, windows on the lane side, and a door standing open into the dark. Local +Z is the lane side. Origin is the centre of the footprint at ground.

manor(b: any) → void

Thackeray Manor: three storeys of ashlar with a parapet, tall sash windows, and the only building in Lanternwake that was ever proud.

argtypedescription
bany

church(b: any, opts: any?) → void

St Brannoc's: nave, porch, west tower and the broach spire that is the only thing in the fen tall enough to find from anywhere. The spire is what the camera keeps coming back to, so it is deliberately over-tall for the building under it — which is exactly what a fen church looks like.

mill(b: any) → void

The Drowned Mill: a timber mill house on staddle piers over the cut, with an undershot wheel half in the water and the sluice gear that freed it.

argtypedescription

well(b: any) → void

The Weeping Well: a stone drum, a timber frame over it, a windlass, and a bucket that has been down there a long time.

argtypedescription

lampPost(b: any, power: number?) → void

Street furniture A cast-iron gas standard: fluted column, ladder bar, four-pane lantern with a hood and a finial. `power` > 0 gives it a burning mantle.
