What it does

carBody

The torqueCars car-body surface shader: one engine-lit (surface()) material draws a whole car body or wheel mesh. The mesh's vertex colour rgb is each part's colour and its alpha is a part code (1 paint, 0.85 glass, 0.7 chrome, 0.55 gloss plastic, 0.4 trim/rubber, 0.25 front lamp, 0.1 tail lamp), so the paint colour, roughness, metallic and clearcoat apply only to painted panels while glass, chrome, trim and lamps keep their own finish. Lamps glow by lamp_glow / tail_glow plus headlights / brake (0..1, bindable to a car's named values). Paint and wheel materials for every look live in torqueCars.materials; torqueCars.bodies hands them out.
