What it does

figures.geom

The small procedural geometry kit the cast of "Standing Ovation" is built out of. Everything in the film that is a person is a surface of revolution or a box — a head, a baggy sleeve, a gloved mitt, a shoe, a ruff — so the kit is one good lathe, one box, one pleated disc, and the ability to stamp any of them into a growing vertex buffer under a transform.

That last part is what makes a 1,412-strong instanced population possible: the performer is an articulated hierarchy of separate meshes, and the audience is the same parts MERGED down into three meshes, because one draw call per moving piece is what makes 1,412 of him affordable.

A geometry value is the table renderer.mesh.create and asset.create("mesh", …) both take: { positions, normals, uvs, indices }. The lathe takes a profile running bottom to top, pins a normal where a corner should stay sharp, and lays v out by arc length — or linearly up the profile with vFromY, for a surface whose texture is placed by height. stampFlat collapses a stamped part onto one texture coordinate, which is how a red nose and a white eye survive being merged into a painted head that draws with a single material.

figures.geom — the small procedural geometry kit the clown is built out of. Everything in "Standing Ovation" that is a person is a surface of revolution or a box: a head, a baggy sleeve, a gloved mitt, a shoe, a ruff. So this module is one good lathe, one box, and the ability to stamp either into a growing vertex buffer under a transform. That is the whole kit, and it is enough to build a figure that reads at 45 cm on an 18-degree lens AND to merge that figure down into the three meshes a 1,412-strong instanced population is drawn from. A geometry value is the table `renderer.mesh.create` takes directly: { positions = {x,y,z, ...}, normals = {...}, uvs = {u,v, ...}, indices = {...} } Conventions, so nothing has to be guessed at a call site: * A LATHE PROFILE runs bottom (low y) to top, each point { r, y }, and an optional { n = { nr, ny } } pins that point's normal where the automatic one would round a corner that should be sharp. * A ring's angle theta puts x = r*sin(theta), z = r*cos(theta), so u = 0.5 of the texture faces -Z — the direction a figure in this film faces. * Triangles wind counter-clockwise seen from outside, which is the front face the renderer keeps.

rotate(x: ?, y: ?, z: ?, yaw: ?, pitch: ?, roll: ?) → void

A stamp transform is { pos = {x,y,z}, rot = {yaw, pitch, roll}, scale = n or {sx,sy,sz} }, every field optional. Rotation order is yaw (Y) then pitch (X) then roll (Z), applied to the already-scaled point.

stamp(dst: ?, src: ?, xf: ?) → void

Stamp `src` into `dst` under `xf`. Returns `dst`.

stampFlat(dst: ?, src: ?, xf: ?, u: number, v: number) → void

Stamp `src` into `dst` and then collapse every vertex it added onto ONE texture coordinate. A merged mesh draws with a single material, so the way a red nose and a white eye survive being merged into a painted head is to send them at a solid patch of that head's own texture instead of at the face.

lathe(profile: ?, segments: ?, opts: ?) → void

`profile` is a list of { r, y } bottom to top; a point may carry `n = { nr, ny }` to pin its normal, and `u0`/`u1` are the texture band the surface is mapped into along v.

spheroid(rx: ?, ry: ?, rings: ?, segments: ?) → void

A sphere as a lathe, so it carries the same equirect UVs a face texture wants: v = 0 at the south pole, v = 1 at the north, u = 0.5 facing -Z.

tube(r0: ?, r1: ?, height: ?, segments: ?, opts: ?) → void

A tapered tube — every limb, every sleeve, every stand leg. Capped so it reads solid from any angle.

ruff(rInner: ?, rOuter: ?, thickness: ?, lobes: ?, segments: ?) → void

A frilled disc — the ruff at the clown's throat. `lobes` ripples the radius around the ring, which is what makes it read as pleated cloth rather than a washer.

Upload a geometry and return the MeshHandle, under a stable guid so a rebuild replaces the same mesh rather than leaking a new one every reload.
