What it does

game.crowd.standin

A battle written into kessrel.units by the crowd slice itself, for the frames when no sim is writing one: ten regiment blocks formed across the line and a tide pouring down the canyon from the Maw, or — in heroes mode — one of each caste alone in clear ground. It is off unless something turns it on, and it stands down the moment K.battle.running goes true, because the sim's table is the real one and two writers would fight over every record.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

game/crowd/standin — a battle in the unit table, written by the crowd slice itself, for the frames when no sim is writing one. The crowd renders `kessrel.units`; the sim fills it. Those are two slices and they do not finish at the same moment, so without this the only way to look at ten thousand bodies is to wait for somebody else's code. This module writes a plausible field into the same buffer under the same contract — ten regiment blocks formed across the line, a tide pouring down the canyon from the Maw, a scatter of contact and of dying — so the population, the compute pass, the materials, the tracers and the frame rate can all be proved on their own. It is OFF unless something turns it on, and it stops the moment `K.battle.running` goes true, because the sim's table is the real one and two writers would fight over every record.

writeAliens(d: { number }, t: number, advance: number) → void

The tide. Skitters fill the canyon from the line to the Maw, densest at the head, thinning as they come down onto the guns; brutes among them; the titans behind. A share of them are in contact and a share are dying, which is what the death fall and the ichor need to be visible at all.

# game.shared KESSREL LINE's one shared surface: the game's constants (world frame, palette, fonts, unit kinds and index ranges, regiments, stances, abilities, waves), the event bus every slice talks over, the `battle` state the sim writes and everyone reads, the `audio` and `screens` contracts other slices bind, and the spoken lines with their text. ```lua local K = require("game.shared") K.on("battle.wave", function(p) print(p.wave) end) K.emit("cmd.move", { ids = { 1, 2 }, x = 0, z = 40 }) K.say("wave_1") ``` The design spec at `/zero/source/design/spec.md` says which slice owns which part of it. Nothing here writes a unit, a screen or a sound; it is the place they agree.
