What it does

arcs

The discharge rack: twelve ribbons and six point lights, standing from the first frame of the film and never created or destroyed again.

strike(from, to, opts) leases one. The ribbon is stood at from, scaled so its one-unit height covers the gap, turned every frame to face wherever the film is being watched from, and given a life that runs from 1 to 0 over hold seconds. Lane 0 of its per-instance data carries that life, its seed and its brightness to the arc shader, so all twelve share one material and no two channels wander together. An arc at life 0 draws nothing.

opts: width (metres across the ribbon, default a sixth of the gap), hold (seconds it conducts), gain (ribbon brightness), light (peak intensity of the point light it carries, 0 for none) and color (that light's colour).

Everything is preallocated on purpose. Creating and destroying a blended draw mid-film is the one thing that has taken this engine down during this build, so the rack holds its slots and recycles them.

# arc_bolt Every discharge in the film draws with this one material — the first arc across the north insulator string, the small ones jumping bus to bus, and the simultaneous flashover of all three strings at the cascade. The arcs differ from each other through lane 0 of their per-instance data, not through the material. Blue-white core, blue-violet sheath: the discharge is the one thing in Act III that is not amber, which is the point of it.

# geom The storm slice's geometry bench. Everything the storm builds is a card: a flat quad for a refraction plane, a subdivided sheet for an auroral curtain, a sleeve for a corona or a tracking filament. This module makes those three shapes, uploads them through `renderer.mesh.create`, and hangs one on an entity with a material. `quad(w, h)` and `sheet(w, h, nx, ny, uOffset)` both stand in the XY plane facing +Z with their origin at the bottom centre, so a card placed at ground level stands on the ground. `uv.y` is 0 at the base and 1 at the top. `sleeve(r, h, segs)` is an open tube around Y with `uv.y` along it and `uv.x` around it, which is the parameterisation the `discharge` shader's filaments crawl in. `card(geom, handle, opts)` spawns the entity. `material(identity)` resolves one of the storm's authored materials to the runtime handle `ecs.Material` wants, and `set(handle, name, value)` writes a property on it. `pitch` / `yaw` / `yawPitch` / `alongY` are the quaternions that place them.
