Apex Raceway
Press Play and race. You start on the grid of a 590 m circuit against three AI karts: Rocco (aggressive), Bix (item-happy) and Echo (rubber-band). Red, amber, green, go. Three laps, live positions, item boxes, and a podium at the end. Then the next race lines up.
Controls: W/S drive and brake, A/D steer, Shift boost, Ctrl drift, Q fire your item, R recover. Gamepad and touch work too.
The kit inside: racingKit
Everything here is one installable package, racingKit, for making your own kart or car racing game.
- Tracks from a drawn curve. One call turns a curve through your world into a closed race track: a drivable road, barriers down both sides, a checkered start/finish line with a numbered grid, and checkpoint gates. Width, laps and checkpoints are simple settings.
- Six surfaces, each with its own barriers and feel: asphalt with tyre walls, dirt with hay bales, glare ice with snow banks, a glowing neon rainbow ribbon with light rails, a bumpy offroad trail with rocks, and a splashy water channel with concrete walls. Ice really slides, dirt and offroad really drift.
- Five gate styles: classic inflatable arch, floating ring, sea buoys, sci-fi hologram and chunky pixel-art flag. Switching surface or gates is one word.
- Laps done right. A lap only counts through every checkpoint in order: skip a gate or cut the infield and it does not count. Live positions, lap counter, lap times and a standings list on screen, and a results screen with the right finish order.
- AI rivals that really race. They drive the very same karts players drive, steering and working the pedals along a racing line (which you can paint on the road as a driving aid). Four personalities: careful, aggressive, item-happy and rubber-band.
- Item boxes: speed boost, triple boost and oil slicks.
- Multiplayer: everyone in the world sees the same race, the same positions and the same finish order; friends take over AI karts between races.
Use it in your world
Search ZeroMind for racingKit and install it. Then, in a scene's build:
local Racing = require("racingKit.api")
Racing.track(myCurve, { surface = "asphalt", gates = "arch", laps = 3 })
Racing.race("RaceTrack", { karts = 4, ai = { "careful", "aggressive", "itemHappy", "rubberBand" } })
Two guides come with it: How to make a racing game track with laps, checkpoints and positions and AI opponents for my kart race: draw a track and race 3 AI karts over 3 laps. The gallery scene (racingKit.gallery) shows every surface, gate style and AI driver side by side.
Built on Joyride Harbor's vehiclesKit karts, Torque Valley's aiDrivers, MatchFlow and Treasure Trove's pickupsKit.
