Brick and Mortar: The Masonry and Building Material Collection

Build a whole street in minutes. 30 seamless masonry and building materials for Zero that show at real size on any box, plane or model, with no UV setup: a 1 m cube shows real bricks, a 3 m wall shows three times as many. Swap any surface by changing one name: brickRunning, brickFlemish, brickEnglish, brickCommon, brickStack, brickYellowStock; concreteSmooth, concreteBoardFormed, concreteStained, concreteCracked, cinderBlock, plaster, stucco; tileSubway, tileSquareGrid, tileHexMosaic, tileCheckerboard, terracottaTiles; roofAsphaltShingles, roofSlate, roofClayPantiles, roofThatch; asphalt, roadLaneMarkings, roadCrosswalk, pavingSlabs, pavingBrickHerringbone; plus toonBrick, handPaintedPlasterBrick and pixelBrick for cartoon and retro worlds. Walk the gallery, where every material stands on its sample shapes beside the reference picture it was made to match, under six switchable lighting looks, and put any of them on anything with the picker. Install the masonryMaterials package (version 2.0.0, depends on materialLibraryKit 1.3.1, which comes with it) and they appear in the material library's list, picker and gallery for every player. 52.8 MB of texture memory for all 30.

Brick and Mortar

masonryMaterials 2.0.0 · depends on materialLibraryKit 1.3.1 (stated in the package's own dependency entry and installed with it automatically; nothing else is installed)

30 seamless, physically based masonry and building materials for Zero's material library, at real size on any object: the shaders place bricks, blocks and tiles by metres on the object rather than by its UVs, so a plain 1 m cube shows about 13 brick courses and a 3 m wall about 40. Shown in a walk-round swatch gallery with each material's reference picture beside it, and a street corner where they meet.

Install: search ZeroMind for masonryMaterials (or "Brick and Mortar") and install the package. materialLibraryKit 1.3.1 comes with it, and nothing else.

local Materials = require("~materialLibraryKit.Materials")
local wall = entity.spawn("brickWall", { components = { Model = { model = "cube" } } })
wall.localPosition = { 1, 1.5, 4 }
wall.localScale = { 3, 3, 0.2 }
local model = wall.component.get("Model")
model.material = Materials.get("brickRunning").material   -- real-size brick
model.material = Materials.get("toonBrick").material      -- only the name changes

The 30 names:

  • Brick: brickRunning, brickFlemish, brickEnglish, brickCommon, brickStack, brickYellowStock
  • Concrete and render: concreteSmooth, concreteBoardFormed, concreteStained, concreteCracked, cinderBlock, plaster, stucco
  • Tiles: tileSubway, tileSquareGrid, tileHexMosaic, tileCheckerboard, terracottaTiles
  • Roofs: roofAsphaltShingles, roofSlate, roofClayPantiles, roofThatch
  • Street: asphalt, roadLaneMarkings, roadCrosswalk, pavingSlabs, pavingBrickHerringbone
  • Stylised: toonBrick, handPaintedPlasterBrick, pixelBrick

Every material is tagged (kind, style, tile size, finish, metal, texture weight), passes the library's seam (4 x 4 at real size), shimmer (30 m), texture-memory and web-budget checks, and the set costs 52.8 MB of texture memory (63.1 MB with the gallery's reference pictures). The package README has the full table, the memory figures, known engine issues and the version history. 2.0.0 is the first version number that stands for one fixed collection; the earlier 1.0.0 uploads are withdrawn, and the README lists the old-to-new names.

In this world: you spawn in the gallery with all 30 on one ring. Switch the lighting look and open the picker from the toolbar; a material you put on something is shared with everyone. Past the ring is a street corner: a brick house with a shingle roof, a stucco side wall, kerb, sidewalk, herringbone path, and a road with lane markings and a crosswalk.
