25 woods, ready for any world. Walk into the swatch gallery and every wood stands in its own bay, on a floor tile, a wall, a sphere, a cube, a shader ball and a cylinder, with the reference picture it was made to match hung right beside it. Flip the light between daylight, overcast, golden hour, moonlight, warm interior and studio from the toolbar, and click any object to put a wood on it. Everyone in the world sees the same thing.

What's in the box

  • Seven species as sawn boards: oak, pine, walnut, birch, cherry, maple, mahogany, with real cathedral grain.
  • Boards and floors: oak planks, weathered grey planks with nail heads, 45° herringbone parquet, birch plywood, chipped blue painted wood, a high-gloss varnished floor, end-grain butcher block with visible growth rings.
  • Four barks that look like their trees: deeply furrowed mossy oak, chunky plated red pine, chalk-white birch with dark diamond scars, smooth grey beech.
  • Driftwood with deep cracked grain, charred yakisugi (shou sugi ban) and bamboo.
  • For cartoon and retro games: cel-shaded toon planks and toon log, hand-painted fantasy planks, pixel-art planks.

Made to be reused

  • Real-world scale (1 unit = 1 m): 15 cm floorboards, 7 × 35 cm parquet blocks, 5 cm end-grain blocks.
  • Seamless at 4 × 4, crisp at 1 m, calm at 30 m. Every wood passes the material library's seam, shimmer, diagnostic-view and web-budget checks.
  • Physically based: no painted-in light, wood is never metallic, and shininess follows the finish, from the glossy varnished floor to rough bark and char.
  • Light enough for the web: 48.8 MB of texture memory for all 25 (57.2 MB with the gallery's reference pictures), and at most 3.3 MB for any one wood.
  • Every wood is tagged (kind, style, tile size, roughness, metallic, texture cost), so Materials.list({ kind = "bark" }) or Materials.list({ tag = "oak" }) just works.

Use it in your world

Two installs, no setup code:

  1. Install the woodsMaterials package (348f7ef1-f2a6-4df5-9db0-6ecc38c6570d).
  2. Install the materialLibraryKit core as well (0d7f3e76-0699-44fd-b0ac-2cb37822b648).

Step 2 is needed for now: ZeroMind's installer currently brings the core along only in part (OrigoZero/ZeroMind#2862). Then:

local Materials = require("~materialLibraryKit.Materials")
assert(Materials.apply(myCrate, "oakPlanks")) -- every player sees it

The package README has the full table of woods, sizes and costs, and its known limits.
