Hull and Hologram: Sci-Fi and Tech Materials

24 sci-fi and tech materials for spaceships, stations and cyberpunk sets: greebled hull plating, stencilled panels, carbon, heat-tinted steel, hazard stripes, neon signs, circuitry, screens, holograms, force fields and hex shields, plus a toon set. Walk the gallery and the corridor-and-console vignette, then install the scifiMaterials package from ZeroMind and apply any surface by name with Materials.apply. Animated, real-scale, web-ready. Version 1.0.3.

24 sci-fi and tech surfaces for the Swatchbook material library, ready for spaceships, stations, labs and cyberpunk sets. Install the scifiMaterials package and every material shows up in the library's list, picker and walk-round gallery for every player, with no setup code. Swap any surface for another by changing one name.

What's in the pack

  • Hull and panels: light grey and dark gunmetal hull plating with greebles, clean white and worn industrial orange painted panels with stencilled numbers and arrows, a carbon composite hull under clear coat, straw-to-blue heat-tinted steel, a frosted cryo panel and a deck plate floor.
  • Warning stripes: yellow/black and red/white.
  • Glowing: pulsing circuitry, a circuit board with blinking LEDs, cyan and magenta neon (signs of thin glowing tubes on a dark backing, or a single tube on a thin cylinder), a scanning grid floor and breathing LED light strips.
  • Screens and energy: a UI screen with a radar sweep and scanlines, a scrolling green terminal, a flickering see-through hologram, a force field and a hex energy shield that is bright at its edges and pulses.
  • Toon: toon hull panels, a cartoon neon sign and a toon hologram for stylised games.

Real-world scale (1 unit = 1 m), physically based, seamless when tiled, animated where it should move, tagged in full (sci-fi, kind, style, tile size, roughness and metal, glows, animated, see-through, texture cost), and light enough for the web: 46.7 MB of textures for all 24.

What's new in 1.0.3

  • Neon looks like neon. In the gallery the cyan, magenta and toon neon now show as neon signs: thin bent tubes with an almost white core and coloured glow falling off onto a dark backing, matching their reference pictures, in the dark and in daylight. Before, they showed as flat pastel panels. On a thin cylinder they are still a single glowing tube.
  • A lighter install. The pack now depends only on the material library itself. The heat-tinted steel carries its own copy of the brushed steel it is built on and looks exactly as before, so installing the pack no longer brings the metals collection or its copies of engine parts.
  • Known limits brought up to date, including the gallery's measured browser frame rate.

Earlier

  • 1.0.2: the heat-tinted steel found its brushed steel in a fresh install.
  • 1.0.1: the gallery's magenta-and-purple checkerboards were explained (an editor that lost the engine's own shaders mid-session; a restart clears them), and the hologram shader got a preview picture.

The world

You land in the gallery: every material on a floor tile, wall, cube, sphere, shader ball and cylinder, each beside the reference picture it was made to match, with readable plaques all round. The toolbar switches the lighting look for everyone (Moonlight shows off the glows) and opens the picker: whatever you apply, every player sees. Behind the spawn stands a corridor wall and a console built entirely from the pack.

Use it in your world

local Materials = require("~materialLibraryKit.Materials")
local panel = entity.spawn("hullSample", { synced = true, components = { Model = { model = "cube" } } })
panel.localPosition = { 0, 1, 3 }
assert(Materials.apply(panel, "hullPanelLight"))
assert(Materials.apply(panel, "hullPanelToon"))

The package README lists every material with its tags, sizes, costs and checks.
