Joyride Harbor: the vehicles kit for Zero
Walk up to a vehicle, get in, drive it, get out. Fourteen vehicles, one setting to switch between them, ready for a racing game, a driving sandbox, an island adventure or a flying game.
Fourteen vehicles, three looks
Go-kart · sports car · muscle car · monster truck · dune buggy · delivery truck · city bus · tank · hovercraft · speedboat · rowboat · arcade plane · helicopter · spaceship, each in toy, low-poly and realistic looks, with twelve paint colours. The showroom gallery lines up all 42 combinations side by side.
Feels like the real thing
- Real car physics. The cars use the engine's own physics: an automatic gearbox, anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, tuned for each car. They climb kerbs, and Recover always gets you unstuck.
- Water and air. Boats float and bob on the ocean, lean into their turns and stay upright. The plane builds speed down the runway, lifts off on real wings, banks into turns without losing height, and glides back down onto the runway when you ease the throttle off. The helicopter holds its height on its own, and the spaceship hovers.
- Boost and drift. Every vehicle has a boost with a meter on screen. Cars drift on the handbrake, the hovercraft slides sideways and the boats carve hard turns.
- Cockpit details. A speedometer, engine sounds that follow the revs, and a horn.
Getting in and out
A press E prompt appears as you walk up, with the matching gamepad button and a touch button on phones. Your character sits in the seat, the camera swings into a chase view (press C for the cockpit or bonnet view), and getting out gives you back your walking camera. The bus seats 37 passengers besides the driver.
Built for multiplayer
Whoever sits in the driver's seat controls the vehicle. Getting out gives it up, so the next player can hop straight in. Everyone else sees it move smoothly at full speed.
Play on anything
Driving and flying controls on keyboard, gamepad and phone touch screens. On a phone, steer by dragging anywhere on the left of the screen; every button reads in full and the speedometer sits clear of your thumbs.
Try it
The world opens on Joyride Island: a kart on a race track, a speedboat and a rowboat at the pier, a plane on a 430 m runway, a hovercraft on the beach and a helicopter on its pad.
Use it in your world
Install vehiclesKit.package from ZeroMind. That one install brings every kit it builds on: controlsKit, interactKit, barsKit, soundstage, gaugeClusters, engineVoices, driveCams and torqueCars. Then add one line to your scene:
require("~vehiclesKit.api").spawn("sportsCar", { 6, 0, 2 }, { look = "realistic", paint = "red", yaw = 180 })
The package includes a README with a first example tried in a brand-new world, a how-to guide ("how to add a drivable car to my game"), a step-by-step island example guide and a test suite.
