Platform Playground: Moving, Crumbling and Bouncy Platforms Kit

Every platform a platformer or obstacle course needs as one multiplayer Platform component: 16 kinds (moving, ping-pong, spinner, seesaw, crumbling, falling, spring pad, bouncy mushroom, conveyor, one-way, beat blocks, ice, sticky, elevator, ladder, rope swing) in cartoon, sci-fi, fantasy, pixel and realistic looks. Walk and ride a gallery of all 80, then add the platformsKit package (1.4.1) to your own world with one install; it brings juiceKit effects and the shape helpers it uses.

Every platform your platformer or obstacle course needs, in one component. Drop a Platform on any entity, pick what it does (kind) and what it looks like (look), and press Play. Change either on a placed platform and it turns into the new one at once, for every player.

Walk the gallery here first: all 80 kind-and-look combinations laid out as eight rows of little challenges to ride, climb, swing and jump through. Then put the kit in your own world with one install.

16 kinds

Moving platform along a path · ping-pong · spinner · tilting seesaw · crumbling (breaks and comes back) · falling (drops and floats back) · spring pad · bouncy mushroom · conveyor · one-way jump-through · beat blocks · ice · sticky goo · elevator with call buttons · ladder · rope swing.

5 looks for every kind

Cartoon, sci-fi, fantasy, pixel and realistic: 80 named, tagged platforms (Bubblegum Cruiser, Grav Elevator, Jungle Vine…) you can browse in code with PK.list.

Why it plays well

  • Built for multiplayer. Platforms move on a shared clock, so everyone sees them in the same place at the same moment. Crumbles, falls, elevator calls and rope grabs are shared, and whatever breaks comes back for everyone, late joiners included.
  • Smooth riding on the normal player. Riders are carried on anything that moves, turns, tilts or lifts, using the built-in character controller: no custom player, no jitter, never dragged through a floor.
  • Falls are caught. A SafetyNet puts anyone who drops off the level back on the last solid ground they stood on.
  • Good defaults, easy tuning. Path, speed, waits, start offset, beat timing and trigger (always, step on it, press a button) are plain settings in the inspector or in code.
  • Light enough for phones. Runs in the browser; a lite detail level and a draw distance cut the drawing on small screens.
  • Tested. 93 automated tests, plus a first example played start to finish in a brand-new world.

Get it

One install brings the platformsKit package (version 1.4.1) and what it uses: juiceKit for effects and Trapline's part helpers for the shapes. Package guid 0c812a97-6662-4664-b81b-4e3caa64700c. The package README starts with the install and a paste-in first example, then covers every kind, setting and call, and lists the known limits with the engine issue behind each one.
