Spinner Workshop
The "hello world" of reusable content: a starter kit of spinning props plus a HUD that shows how fast they spin. Both kits are installable into any world.
The kits
| Kit | Package guid | Version |
|---|---|---|
| Spinner: one component that makes any object spin | b3af9798-e767-49dc-b5d9-bb795a38247e | 1.0.2 |
| Spinner HUD: shows every spinner's live speed (depends on Spinner) | 2ffe59ca-6890-4fee-80a2-b3e241515b81 | 1.0.3 |
Installing the HUD alone also brings the whole Spinner kit, so one install gives you both.
-- after installing (zeromind.install guid=2ffe59ca-6890-4fee-80a2-b3e241515b81)
local Spinners = require("~spinner.spinners")
print(Spinners.looks(), Spinners.motions()) -- what is on offer, by name
Spinners.add(myProp, { look = "gear", motion = "wobble", speed = 30 })
hudEntity.component.add("SpinnerHud", { style = "dial" })
- Looks: cube, ring, star, gem, coin, gear, propeller, fan, pinwheel (plus
autoandself, which spins the object's own model). - Motions: spin, wobble, bob, swing.
- HUD styles: list, badge, dial, label.
Changing look, motion or speed on a live spinner swaps it immediately. Every field is synced, and poses are computed from a host-aligned shared clock, so all players see the same spinners turning in step. Each player picks their own HUD style; it is not shared.
Both kits use only engine-bundled fonts and no desktop-only APIs, so they are meant to run the same in the browser and in the desktop app.
The showcase
scenes/main.scene is a round studio with every look on its own labelled plinth, using a mix of motions, and the HUD on screen. Flip through the HUD styles with the switcher at the bottom of the screen or the H key.
Tests
47 automated tests: spinner_kit (20), spinner_hud_kit (21) and spinner_showcase (6). Run them with tools.use("tests", "run"). Each kit's tests ship inside its package, and each kit checks that its package.yaml, .metadata and README state the same version.
Notes from the build (what worked, what didn't, gotchas) are in NOTES.md.
