Style Cookbook: Mix Your Own Art Style from Stackable Look Blocks

Stop picking a look from a menu. Style Cookbook lets you build your own art style out of small, stackable look blocks: lay a wash, an ink line and a paper together and you have a watercolour look; swap the ink for pencil and you have a new one nobody listed. Ten slots (surface, light, fill, tone, line, colour, ground, time, raster, medium), any block swaps for any other in its slot, two blocks can share a slot by weight or mask, and every block shares one paper, one held clock and marks that stay on things as the camera moves. The stack lives in your scene, is the same for every player, runs over the whole frame with no material edits, and comes off in one call. Includes the styleKit core, 14 starter blocks, the Lookbook test scene with real stability numbers, guides, and a restyle workflow for your own worlds.

Style Cookbook

Mix your own art style from stackable look blocks.

Most stylized games pick one look and build everything around it. Style Cookbook turns a look into a recipe you can change: a stack of small blocks, each doing one job, that combine into one picture.

What you get

  • styleKit, the core: the stack, ten slots, masks by depth, region or object group, a shared paper, a shared held clock for wobble and boil, marks that stay on surfaces, quality levels, an API, a shell toolbox and tests.
  • Example blocks: posterize and duotone (colour), a clean depth line and a soft sketch line.
  • starterBlocks: matte card, stepped light bands (whole frame or inside a material), flat wash, surface dots, plain paper, dark board, line boil, chunky pixels, soft grain and vignette, with a labelled gallery.
  • The Lookbook: a scripted test scene and camera path that measures how a look holds up in motion, with numbers.
  • Guides and a workflow: combine blocks into your own style, write your own block, build a small stylized game, and give any world a new look without touching its materials.

Try it

local StyleKit = require("~styleKit.StyleKit")
StyleKit.add("flatWash")
StyleKit.add("depthLine")
StyleKit.add("plainPaper")
StyleKit.swap("depthLine1", "sketchLine") -- a new look, one change
StyleKit.clear() -- back to the rendered frame
