Excavator Sim
A playable tracked excavator on a small construction site. You operate the machine: drive it across the apron, swing the cab on its ring, work the boom and bucket, dig the dirt heap and load the tipper truck. When the tipper is full it raises its bed, empties itself and the load count goes up.
Controls
| Key | Does |
|---|---|
W / S | travel forward and back |
A / D | steer (a tracked machine skids; it turns on the spot) |
Q / E | swing the cab left and right |
↑ / ↓ | boom up and down |
← / → | arm in and out |
Z / X | bucket — curl closed, open to dump |
A gamepad drives the same six things, and on a phone the sticks cover travel, steer, swing and boom with labelled buttons for the arm and the bucket.
How to play it
- Drive toward the dirt heap on the left of the apron.
- Swing the cab toward it and lower the bucket into the dirt. The bucket fills on its own — there is no key to press. The HUD tells you which of these you are meant to be doing at every moment.
- Swing right, drive up to the tipper and bring the bucket over the bed. The load goes in the same way.
- Four bucket loads fill the tipper. It raises its bed, tips the load out and resets, and the count of loads hauled away goes up.
- The heap holds six loads. Clear it and there is nothing left to dig.
What is in the world
- The machine — authored part by part rather than imported as one model, because an excavator is jointed: the house swings on its ring and the boom, arm and bucket each turn on a pin. Its hydraulics move with it.
- The tipper — a six-wheeled truck with a bed hinged at the rear.
- The heap — a lumpy pile with spoil beside it, which shrinks as you take dirt out of it.
- The site — cones, barriers and concrete blocks to drive around.
Notes
- The machine's controls carry a deadzone, so a resting stick never drifts it.
- The heap, the tipper and the machine's dig state are local to each player, so two people in the world each get their own site to work.
- Third-person camera: the mouse looks around the machine, the wheel changes the distance.
