Cell by Cell: the gridKit gallery
gridKit is a reusable grid and board kit for board games, tactics games, puzzle games, city builders and tabletop games. Install one package and a single line, Grid { shape = "hex" }, gives you a working board: hover lights up a cell, a click or tap places a token, and undo takes it away.
Walk the gallery
You arrive on a view of the whole gallery: sixteen labelled boards in a 4x4 square. Move and the camera is yours again.
- Front row, four turn models: playable two-seat duels for alternating turns, initiative order, simultaneous turns and action points. Pick a piece to see its move range, the path to any cell, and a line of sight that walls block, with the cover it gives.
- Middle rows, eight highlight looks: crisp outline, solid fill, stamped decal, soft glow, chunky pixel, sci-fi hologram, dotted border and animated pulse, each on its own board.
- Back row, four grid shapes: square, hex with flat tops, hex with pointy tops and isometric diamond. Free play: click or tap to place, Z to undo.
What the kit does
- World point to cell and back, neighbours and distance on every shape.
- Picking with a mouse, the screen centre, touch on a phone, or a keyboard/gamepad cell cursor; walking comes straight back when the cursor closes.
- Pieces that cover several cells and rotate; placements that overlap or hang off the board are refused.
- Move ranges and paths around blocked cells; line of sight and directional cover.
- Step-by-step undo, save to a string and load back exactly.
- Turn models for two or more seats, swappable live like the grid shape and the highlight look, each one setting; a player can claim a seat so only they play it.
- Events for hover, select, place, move, undo and turns.
- One authoritative board per room: every player sees the same tokens, while each player's hover and HUD stay on their own screen. Thumb-sized HUD buttons on a phone held upright.
- English and Brazilian Portuguese text, and a test suite.
Guides
Two guides come with the package and open in the Docs panel once it is installed:
- How to make a turn based grid board game: square, hex or isometric boards with movement, line of sight and undo teaches the kit: which board shape to pick, pointing at cells, the eight highlight looks, multi-cell pieces, move ranges and paths, line of sight and cover, undo, the four ways of taking turns and seats, saving and loading, and the board every player shares.
- How to make a hex grid tactics game, step by step goes from an empty world to a two-sided hex skirmish: each piece shows its move range and moves along a path, attacks only hit enemies a piece can see, undo takes back a move, the sides take turns, and the game says who won.
