What it does

camera.shots

The thirteen set-ups of Standing Ovation, as data — where the lens stands, what it is aimed at, how it moves across the shot, and which lens it is on.

Consumed by camera.filmCamera, which evaluates it every rendered frame off the film clock and writes the FilmCamera's transform and fov. Nothing else writes that camera.

What an entry holds

keymeaning
eyeworld points. One = a locked-off camera. Two or more = keys the lens moves through.
lookworld points, the same shape. What the lens is aimed at.
lookRelan aim offset carried along with the lens, instead of look — a tracking shot that keeps looking the same way relative to itself.
lookEntitya leaf another slice owns. If it is in the world the aim follows it; if it is not, the aim falls back to look, so a shot never stops framing.
ease"smooth" (default) or "linear".
breathemetres of deterministic drift on a locked-off lens, a pure function of the shot's own local time. A held camera, not a rendered still.

The lens is never restated here: Shots.fov(n) reads Film.SHOTS[n].fov.

The bookend

Shot 1 and shot 13 are the same station, the same aim and the same lens. They do not hold two copies of the numbers — both entries carry Shots.STATION_I14 and Shots.AIM_I14 by reference, and Shots.check() asserts that with rawequal so the two ends of the film cannot drift apart:

require("camera.shots").check()
--> { bookendSharesStation = true, bookendSharesAim = true,
--    bookendSharesLens = true, millimetres = 0, setups = 13 }

Calls

local Shots = require("camera.shots")

Shots.eval(n, u)   --> ex, ey, ez, lx, ly, lz   -- u is 0..1 across shot n
Shots.station(n)   --> x, y, z                  -- the undrifted station
Shots.fov(n)       --> vertical degrees
Shots.check() --> the bookend report above

Points other slices may want

Shots.STATION_I14 / Shots.AIM_I14 (the bookend), Shots.AISLE_LEFT / Shots.AISLE_RIGHT (the two aisles cut through the stalls — the house has none on its centre line, so shot 9 tracks up the house-left one), Shots.PERFORMER (where shots 5, 6 and 7 compose on him: he comes on from entryX, arrives at centreX, stands at standZ, and his head is at headY), and Shots.ROW_G_SUBJECT (the one shot 10 watches).

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

camera.shots — the thirteen set-ups of "Standing Ovation", as data. One entry per shot: where the lens stands, what it is aimed at, how it moves across the shot, and the lens itself. The lens is never restated here — it is read from `Film.SHOTS[n].fov`, so the shot list stays the single source of truth for it. THE BOOKEND. Shot 1 and shot 13 are the same station, the same height, the same aim and the same lens. They do not hold two copies of those numbers: both entries carry `Shots.STATION_I14` and `Shots.AIM_I14` BY REFERENCE, and `Shots.check()` asserts that with `rawequal`, so the two ends of the film cannot drift apart when somebody nudges one of them. A path is a list of world points. One point is a locked-off camera; two or more are keys the shot moves through, eased by `Film.smooth` unless the entry says `ease = "linear"`. `lookRel` replaces `look` for a shot that aims at a point carried along with the lens (the aisle track). `lookEntity` names a leaf another slice owns: if it is in the world the aim follows it, and if it is not the aim falls back to the point in `look`, so a shot never stops framing.

rowZ(r: number) → number

`eye` / `look` : world points. 1 = locked off, 2+ = keys moved through. `lookRel` : aim offset carried with the lens, instead of `look`. `lookEntity` : a leaf to follow if the world has one. `ease` : "smooth" (default) or "linear". `breathe` : metres of deterministic drift on a locked-off lens, so a static set-up is a held camera and not a rendered still. Zero on 1 and 13 — the bookend is nailed down.

drift(u: number, amp: number) → void

A held lens is never perfectly still. This is a deterministic function of the shot's own local time — no wall clock, no random — so two playthroughs put the camera in exactly the same place on the same frame.

ampnumber

eval(n: number, u: number) → void

Where the lens stands and what it is aimed at, `u` of the way through shot `n`. Returns ex, ey, ez, lx, ly, lz.

nnumber
unumber

station(n: number) → void

The undrifted station of a locked-off shot, for a check that wants the number rather than the frame.

argtypedescription
nnumber

fov(n: number) → number

The lens of shot `n`, in vertical degrees. From the shot list, never restated.

check( ) → void

Shot 13 is not a copy of shot 1's numbers, it is shot 1's numbers.

# ovation.film The shared spine of **Standing Ovation** — a 90-second cinematic demo set in a rotting 1,412-seat theatre. Two things live here and nothing else. ## The constants The Odeon Marisol's geometry (`Film.GEO`, `Film.rakeY`, `Film.stallSeat`, `Film.balconySeat`), its palette (`Film.PALETTE`), its four light sources (`Film.LIGHTS`), its acts (`Film.ACTS`) and its shot list (`Film.SHOTS`). Every slice of the demo reads its colours and dimensions from here rather than restating them, because two slices disagreeing about where row A stands breaks the film in a way no screenshot explains. ## The film clock One deterministic timeline the whole demo runs on. It advances a **fixed 1/24 s per rendered frame** — it reads no wall time and no real frame delta, so the same build produces the same 2,160 frames on any machine, under a recorder or without one. ```lua local Film = require("ovation.film") Film.rewind() -- every reset hook fires, every cue re-arms, t = 0 Film.play() -- the Director advances it from the next rendered frame Film.on("mine", function(t, dt, shot) end) -- called every frame Film.at(47.0, "cue", function() end) -- once, as the clock crosses 47 s Film.reset("mine", function() end) -- back to the t = 0 state ``` `Film.stop()` freezes it with the frame still composed. `Film.seek(t)` lands on a moment for authoring and does not fire the cues in between. `Film.ramp`, `Film.smooth` and `Film.wave` are the shared shaping helpers: this film is made of waves crossing 1,412 identical figures. Only `ovation.director` calls `Film.tick`.
