What it does

ridge.ground

Saddle 3400's massif, as ONE height function sampled into meshes: a col at y = 0 carved west-to-east through a mountain body, shoulders north and south, two rock horns standing out of the cloud at the col's west end, every flank plunging below the deck so the ground never shows an edge, and under the deck the valley floor at y = -900 with its scree fan.

Exports

  • Ground.heightAt(x, z) -> y — the snow's world height. The answer to "where is the ground" for every other slice; nothing in it reads a clock, so it is the same in every mode and on every run.
  • Ground.valleyHeightAt(x, z) -> y — the floor under the deck.
  • Ground.build(root) / Ground.pump(n) / Ground.isBuilt() / Ground.progress() — the meshing, a few patches a frame.
  • Ground.patchGeometry(H, x0, z0, step, nx, nz, skirt?) — a rectangular patch of any height function, with normals taken from the function itself rather than from the grid, so two patches of different density share a border exactly.

Notes

  • Relief belongs to the mountain BODY and to the horns, and col cuts a clean channel through whatever they leave standing. Adding relief after the cut lifts the col's west ramp and walls the saddle into a closed bowl, and the cloud deck then has nowhere to show.
  • Each gun stands on a levelled pad, because Film.gunPosition puts its trails at exactly y = 0.

ffe.ridge.ground — SADDLE 3400 itself. The massif: a col at y = 0 carved west-to-east through a broad mountain body, shoulders rising north and south of it, two rock horns standing 180 m out of the cloud at the col's west end, and every flank plunging below the deck at y = -140 so the ground never shows an edge. Under the deck: the valley floor at y = -900 and the scree fan the registration round lands on. The whole landscape is ONE height function, `Ground.heightAt(x, z)`, sampled into meshes. Anything that needs to stand on the snow asks that function rather than guessing, and the answer is the same in every mode and on every run because nothing in it reads a clock. Building it is spread ACROSS FRAMES. The core patch alone is 75,000 vertices of six-octave noise, and a component's update budget is one second; a task that yields between patches keeps the whole build off any single frame.

Meshing One rectangular patch of a height function, with real normals taken from the function itself (not from the grid), so patch borders match to the bit and no seam can show between two patches of different density.

Cut the cells the core already carries: drop them below the deck instead of meshing them, so nothing z-fights the core.

pump(n: number) → void

Run up to `n` of the remaining patches. The build is driven from `tick`, one handful of patches a frame, rather than from a spawned task: a task started inside a component's update is bound to that call's script context and is cancelled when the call returns, so a build that outlives one frame cannot live in one. A hundred thousand vertices of six-octave noise cannot be meshed inside a single frame's budget either, so it has to be spread somehow — and this is the way that is not cancellable.
