What it does

Screens

Everything HOLLOWBELL puts on the glass, and the console a player drives it with. Spawned by Hollow.boot() onto HollowSystems/presentation; it needs nothing else on that entity.

What it draws

ScreenLayerUp when
hollow.card800A card is up: the title (phase title / boot), how-to-play, the pause card (phase paused), and the death and victory cards, which rise 1.8 s after their phase so the ending plays underneath first
hollow.hud20The opening (captions only) and the fight — and under the pause card, which is the run so far, held

The console

inputMaps.menu is activated exactly while a card is up and released the instant the last one closes. Because that map stands the player group down, one activation does three things at once: the gameplay controls go quiet, the engine's touch overlay swaps the Lamplighter's buttons for the menu's, and Navigate / Confirm / Back become the only live controls.

inputMaps.lamplighter is held for the whole session for one control — pause — so Escape, Start and the on-screen Pause pip all open the pause card from wherever the player is.

FamilyChoosingActing
mouse + keyboardW / S walks the focus; the pointer re-points itclick a row, or Enter / Space; Esc goes back
controllerleft stick or d-pad walks the focus, with a held-repeatSouth fires what is lit; East or Start goes back
touchtap a rowthe tap fires that row

Every row is reachable by all three, and the how-to card names the controls of whichever device is in hand (Zin.surface.current() picks the column, Zin.gamepad.label resolves a button to the glyph that pad prints).

Fields

FieldDefaultWhat it does
previewInEditfalseDraw the title card in edit mode too, for authoring captures. Off by default so the other slices' edit-mode captures are of the crypt, not of a menu.

What it reads

Hollow.state (hero, boss, chamber, phase), and the events phase, say, chamberEntered, heroAttack (which is where the cooldown pips come from when the hero slice publishes no fractions of its own), lootPicked, relicEquipped and restart. It writes nothing but its own screens and the input claims it holds.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

conforms to

zero/source-extract/v2

Screens — everything HOLLOWBELL puts on the glass, and the console the player drives it with. Spawned by Hollow.boot() onto HollowSystems/presentation. It owns: * the five cards — title, how to play, pause, death, victory — one screen whose tree is swapped, drawn at menu depth; * the HUD — health orb, ability pips, flasks, gold, relic slots, the chamber's name, the boss bar and the caption band; * the handoff between the two input maps: `inputMaps.menu` is live exactly while a card is up (it stands the `player` group down, which also takes the gameplay touch controls off the screen and puts the menu's there), and `inputMaps.lamplighter` is held the whole time for `pause`; * focus navigation, so a pad or the keyboard walks a card with exactly one row lit, and a mouse crossing a row or a finger tapping it re-points the same focus. Every row is reachable by all three families. Nothing here draws the on-screen touch buttons: the engine mounts those from the live bindings. What this decides is WHICH bindings are live, which is what makes the phone layout the menu's while a card is up and the Lamplighter's while the crypt is being fought through.

# Focus Menu focus navigation for the cards of GREASEPAINT. A controller has no pointer, so every menu carries an ordered ring of focusable ids and exactly one of them is lit; this module walks that ring. - `Focus.open(list, prefer)` — open a menu: the ids in stick order, and which starts lit. - `Focus.axis(v, dt)` — feed the `navigate` axis; one flick is one step, a held stick repeats. - `Focus.point(id)` — a mouse crossing a row or a finger tapping it moves the focus there. - `Focus.id()` / `Focus.isFocused(id)` — read it. - `Focus.close()` — nothing is focused until the next `open`. - `Focus.release()` — let go of a held direction, so a stick held through a transition does not keep walking. The ring is whatever the card offers, so an interval with three faces and a fourth row is a ring of four and needs nothing said about it here: `open` takes the list `screens.itemIds` returns for the phase. A held stick repeats on a delay measured in seconds AND in frames. On a machine running long frames a single flick can be one frame carrying half a second of `dt`, and a delay measured only in time turns that flick into two steps. Fed by `game/input/console.inputMap`; consumed by `game.ui.Screens`, which asks it which row to draw lit.

# hud What is on the glass while the crypt is being fought through, built as one tree from the metrics and a view of `Hollow.state`. Stacked down the screen, because the filmed frame is portrait: | Where | What | |---|---| | under the top edge | the Bellwarden's bar, with the two phase marks cut into it, while `Hollow.state.boss.engaged` | | below that | the chamber's name, announced when one is entered and fading out | | above the instruments | the caption band — the speaker and the written form of whatever `Hollow.say` just spoke — and the pickup toast | | across the bottom | the health orb, the three ability pips, and the flasks / gold / relic slots | ```lua local Hud = require("presentation.hud") ui.updateScreen("hollow.hud", Hud.build(T.metrics(touch), view)) ``` Two things it deliberately does not do. It carries **no `animation`**: its tree is rebuilt every frame, and a keyframe animation on a node re-declared each frame has nothing stable to run against — what moves here moves because a number moved, and the fades are computed as opacities from the slice's own clock. And its `chrome` flag is false during the opening, when the only thing on the glass should be what is being said.

# cards The five full-screen cards of HOLLOWBELL: the title, the how-to-play handbill, the pause card, and the two endings. A card is a pure function of three things — the metrics, the focused row and the device in the player's hand — so the same three always draw the same picture. Every row it draws carries `onClick`, which is what a mouse click and a finger tap fire; the focus ring says which row a pad's Confirm would fire. ```lua local Cards = require("presentation.cards") local ctx = { m = T.metrics(touch), focus = Focus.id(), surface = "gamepad", pad = padLabel, anim = true } ui.updateScreen("hollow.card", Cards.title(ctx)) ``` | Call | Rows | Notes | |---|---|---| | `title(ctx)` | `play`, `howto` | The bell hangs over the wordmark and sways on its own clock. | | `howto(ctx)` | `back` | Names each control **for the device in hand** — `ctx.surface` picks the column, and `ctx.pad` resolves a pad button to the glyph that pad prints. | | `pause(ctx)` | `resume`, `restart`, `quit` | Carries the run so far. | | `death(ctx)` / `victory(ctx)` | `restart`, `quit` | Each shows the written form of the line spoken over it, so the line survives a muted player or a failed generation. | `ctx.anim` is true on the build a card OPENS with and false on every rebuild after it: re-declaring a keyframe animation on a node restarts it, so the entrance rides the opening build alone and the rows settle where they land.

# theme The look of every HOLLOWBELL screen, and the numbers it lays out by. Two things live here: - **The palette and the type ramp** — wet-stone ink, bone, parchment, ember, verdigris, blood and gold, plus the two bundled font families the game sets in (`anton` for display, `ebgaramond` for anything read as a sentence). No host-OS font is named, so the browser build draws what the native one draws. - **`metrics()`** — the proportions of the screen as it is *right now*. It reads `ui.screenSize()` on every call and returns `w`, `h`, the unit `u` (which tracks the short edge), the paddings, the card measure, the type sizes and the bottom inset the engine's touch overlay needs. Nothing in the slice writes a pixel position chosen for one shape. ```lua local T = require("presentation.theme") local m = T.metrics(surfaceClass == "touch") { type = "vertical", style = T.panelStyle(m), children = { T.menuRow(m, "resume", "Resume", nil, focused, true), } } ``` Also here: `label` / `paragraph` / `capsStyle` for type, `cardBackdrop` and `panelStyle` for card chrome, `menuRow` for a focusable choice, and `riseIn` / `emberPulse` for motion.
