What it does

main

The world's starting scene: a wide checkerboard floor with a collider, lit by a directional sun, a dim ambient light and a procedural afternoon sky. Two lamp posts stand beside the spawn, and a red crate with dynamic physics is shared by every player in the world.

It sets up play for whoever joins: a player prototype with a humanoid avatar and an orbiting follow camera, and the spawn point where each player arrives.

build.luau states all of it as code, and scene.json holds the baked result, so the scene is there the moment the world opens.

# places Builds the seven places a player can discover beyond the Peel Kabuki night market, each standing on the ground and roads `game.city.metro` lays out from `game.city.map`: - **Smoothie Docks**: the quay with a chain railing and bollards, container stacks in rows, two gantry cranes, sodium masts, the smoothie shed and two moored boats. - **Peel Park**: a lawn ringed in stone behind a red torii, a koi pond with hologram koi, an arched bridge, a shrine, stone lanterns, benches and cherry trees. - **Gold Row**: a marble fountain under a gold banana on the roundabout island. - **Rust Alley**: graffiti, rust pipes, AC units, lantern cables and the door of a bar with no name. - **Pixel Peel**: an open-fronted arcade with rows of cabinets, a dance stage and a rooftop sign. - **The Undercroft**: a skate lot under the highway with quarter pipes, a funbox, kickers, a grind rail, a half court and fire barrels. - **The Promenade**: benches, coin binoculars, food kiosks and vending machines along the cliff. ## What it adds A `places` entity holding: - `places_geometry`: static meshes, batched per material per tile. - `places_colliders`: static triangle-mesh colliders. - `places_lights`: about 45 point lights. - `places_props`: the crane and cherry-tree bundles. ## What it needs - It requires `game.city.map`, `game.city.look`, `game.city.kit` and `game.shared.geo`. - It uses the `game.city.props` bundles for the dockside crane and the cherry tree. - Place it under `mount_city` after `game.city.metro`. It takes no params. - The district's `LightBudget` must list `places` among its roots, so these lights share the renderer's light cap with the rest of the city.

# heights Builds **Megabuilding H10**, the first place in Banana City you can climb: a thirty-metre residential stack on Kiwi Street behind the market's west row, laid out by the plan in `game.city.h10`. - **The lobby:** open on Lychee Alley under a pink-edged canopy. It has a doorman's desk, mailboxes, vending machines, a palm planter at the foot of the atrium, and a passage west to Kiwi Street. - **The atrium:** a well cut through every floor up to the sky. - Galleries run round it on five floors, each floor lit in its own neon: pink, cyan, yellow, violet and orange. - The flats' doors face the galleries. - A switchback stair with neon-nosed treads climbs from the lobby to the roof. - **The glass elevator:** a see-through shaft on the north face, with a cab and sliding landing doors on all seven levels. - The cab (`h10_cab`) and the door panels (`h10_door_<level>_<L|R>`) are their own entities under `heights_elevator`, so `game.city.Megabuilding` can move them in play. - **Floor 3:** V's apartment, with a bed, desk and monitor, wardrobe, katana rack, a neon V and a window on the market. - **The roof:** - Nana's Skybar under a neon banana, with string lights, tables and stools. - A water tank, AC units, an antenna with a red light, and a forgotten crate. - A big neon H10 facing the alley. Placed once by `scenes/main.scene/build.luau` under `mount_city`, after `game.city.places`. The lot is the open place `h10` in `game.city.map`, so the metro paves it rather than building on it. ## Where things go | Root | Contents | | --- | --- | | `heights_geometry` | Static geometry, batched per material. Materials are `game.city.look`'s plus a few of its own (`hmat_*`): see-through glass, screens, bottles, plants. | | `heights_colliders` | Collision as static triangle meshes. Stairs collide as smooth ramps through the treads. Every gallery, flight and landing has a 1.1 m railing. | | `heights_lights` | Lights. The district's LightBudget manages them. |

# game.club.venue **The Banana Split** is a cartoon burlesque club ("LIVE PEEL SHOW") on the right-hand side of the Peel Kabuki street, in the gap `game.city.district` leaves at x 9..29, z 69..83. Everything is placed from `game.club.layout`. This module adds: - **Outside:** the facade with its door, the big neon "The Banana Split" sign, a two-sided blade sign with the neon banana lady, and a bulb-lit marquee. In front of the door there is a red carpet and rope stanchions. - **Inside:** a lacquer-and-velvet room with a pink neon cove, and a stage with a curtain, an elliptical apron, a runway and a round tip platform. There are three brass poles, a bar with a mirror and shelves of bottles, a banquette with tables and tub chairs, lighting trusses, a mirror ball and three ceiling spotlights. - **Colliders** for the shell, the stage, the bar and the furniture, plus a reflection probe. Static geometry is batched per material, and each batch is written as one mesh (the district pattern). The dancers and the moving parts live under `life` with unique `club_*` names. The `game.club.ClubShow` component on the club root drives them. The scene must already hold the district. Place this module once with a `SceneModule` (`scenes/main.scene/build.luau` puts it under `mount_city`). Its only input is `seed`, which sets the bottle colours on the bar.

# game.city.district Banana City's Peel Kabuki market street: road, sidewalks, building walls, the elevated highway, neon signs and light spill, the gold banana megatowers with Bananasaka Tower, the night sky, moonlight, ambient haze and the post-process stack. Placed once by `scenes/main.scene/build.luau` under `mount_city`; reads its layout from `game.rules`. Owned by the city slice. The right-hand frontage at x 9..29, z 69..83 is left open as the club lot: `game.club.venue` builds The Banana Split there, from the bounds in `game.club.layout`.

# game.city.metro The rest of Banana City around the Peel Kabuki street, built on the curving plan in `game.city.map`: Banana Crescent's ring round the old town, Gold Row's diagonal to its roundabout, the winding Mikan and Kiwi streets, Cliffside Way, Neon Boulevard and the outer avenues. Every road becomes a strip that follows its curve: asphalt, curb, sidewalk, edge lines, centre and lane dashes, crosswalks at junctions, puddles and staggered lamps. Lots line each road turned to face it (shops, flats, offices, low warehouses and Gold Row's gold towers, chosen by the map's `styleAt`), back lots fill the ground between, and each building's faces are dressed by what they look onto: storefronts, neon, signs and billboards on the street, fire escapes on alleys, plain walls where they are buried. It also builds the elevated highway's run south and east over the Undercroft along its spline, the cliffside promenade with its railings, barriers where a road runs off the city, edge walls, the water off the docks, and a ring of towers on the horizon that leaves every road's vista open. Placed once by `scenes/main.scene/build.luau` under `mount_city`, beside `game.city.district`. It builds the plan in `game.city.map` with the materials in `game.city.look` (shared with the district), and needs nothing else from the scene. Static geometry is batched per material per 130 m tile and written as one mesh per batch under `metro_geometry`. Collision (curbs, sidewalks, buildings, pillars, railings, barriers) is batched the same way into static triangle-mesh colliders (`MeshCollider`, `fit = "exact"`) under `metro_colliders`, beside a ground box. Lights stand under `metro_lights`, kept within the renderer's light cap by the district's `LightBudget`.

# camera.inputMap V's chase-camera controls, read by the `third_person_follow` rig in the main scene. | Control | Keyboard + mouse | Gamepad | Touch | |---|---|---|---| | `look` | Mouse (pointer locked) | Right stick | Drag the right zone | | `zoom` | Scroll wheel | — | Pinch | Zoom has no pad binding because the shoulders are taken (RB interacts). Group `player`, so menus and the car that stand the player down hold the camera still.

# game.rules Banana 2077's one shared module: palette, the Peel Kabuki street layout every slice builds to, tuning for the player, baton and enemies, the controls list, the live game state (`R.state`, kept across hot reloads), the event bus (`R.on` / `R.emit`) and the rule functions that change state (`damagePlayer`, `healPlayer`, `addEddies`, `setSunglasses`, `registerTarget`, `hit`, `reportKill`, `setPhase`, `startRun`). Required by every slice; owned by the lead. See `/zero/source/design/spec.md`.

# CityLife The moving parts of Banana City. The `game.city.district` sceneModule attaches it to the district root and spawns everything it drives under unique names: - `city_splash_N`: splash rings that pop on the road, sidewalks and plaza near the camera. - `city_car_N`: hover cars on valley lanes, in a ring round Bananasaka Tower, and in two lanes high over the market street. - `city_holo_dance`, `city_holo_dance2`, `city_holo_koi`: holograms that sway, bob and glitch-flicker. - `city_search_N`: searchlights sweeping the smog at the tower's foot. - `city_drone_N`: patrol drones flying up and down the market street, banking into their turns with spinning rotors, nav lights and a strobe. The police drone (`city_drone_4`) swaps the strobe for red and blue beacons and sweeps a searchlight (`city_drone_4_spot`) over the road. - `city_flicker_N`: facade neon tubes (with their `_light`) that stutter, sometimes go dark for a while, then stutter back on. A dead glass tube stays behind each one, so an "off" tube still reads. - `city_blink_N`: the road works' amber barrier lamps, blinking in alternation. The steam vents (`city_steam_N`) are effects that run on their own. Nothing it moves carries a collider, so nothing can drag the player. It needs no sibling components. Fields: `carSpeed`, `splashRadius`, `cameraGuard`. The rain itself is `city_rainfall`, a shader that falls around whichever camera draws it, so it needs no script. ## Camera guard The shoulder camera (`third_person_follow`) sweeps for walls outward from its shoulder pivot, so on a sidewalk with a facade on the camera's side the 0.75 m shoulder offset would put the pivot, and the camera, inside the building. While `cameraGuard` is on, CityLife casts from the followed body's head toward the camera's shoulder each frame and narrows `shoulderOffset.x` to the clear room on that side (less the camera radius), snapping in at once and easing back out at 2.5 m/s when the wall falls away. It reads the authored offset off the rig the first time it sees it, and adopts any value written by someone else since.

# ClubShow Runs the live peel show at **The Banana Split** in play mode. `game.club.venue` attaches it to the club root, and it needs no sibling components. It finds everything the venue spawned by unique name: - `club_d1..3`: the `game.club.dancer` rigs - `club_spot_1..3`: their ceiling spots - `club_mirrorball` Each dancer runs the same 32 s routine, offset by her `phase` in `game.club.layout`: 1. A tease with a pole spin. 2. A boa toss onto the stage. 3. Her peel opens petal by petal, then blooms into a tutu as she twirls. 4. The peel drops round her ankles and she kicks it aside. 5. She dances as the fruit: waves, a wink, high kicks against the pole and jazz hands. 6. She blows a kiss. 7. She bows under a dimmed spot while the peel and the boa grow back for the next round. It also: - plays the club's track (`game.club.audio.peel_show`) as a spatial source in the room; - turns the mirror ball; - hides the street rain (`city_rainfall`) while the camera is under the club's roof; - stops animating, and hides the dancers, once the camera is beyond `activeRange`. The music entity it spawns is removed in `onDestroy`, which also shows the rain again. Fields: `showSpeed`, `musicVolume`, `activeRange`, `hideRainInside`.

# LightBudget Keeps the lights nearest the camera switched on, under the renderer's cap on point, spot and area lights (64). The renderer otherwise draws the first 64 lights it was handed wherever the camera is. A city with more than 64 lights leaves the rest dark, however close the player stands to them. Every `interval` seconds the component ranks every point and spot light under the entities named in `roots`. The score is how far the camera's focus stands outside the light's reach, where the focus is the main camera moved `lookAhead` metres along its view. The best-ranked lights stay on and the rest are switched off with `enabled = false`. **Lights it never touches** - Lights outside the roots, such as the player's, an enemy's or an effect's. The rows they hold come out of the budget. - Lights authored switched off. They stay off. **Spare rows:** `spare` rows stay free, so a light that gameplay spawns is drawn the moment it appears. **Modes:** it works in play only. In edit, every light stays as authored. Disabling or removing the component switches every light it turned off back on. **Cost:** - Finding the lights is spread over a few frames, 60 entities a frame. - It rescans the roots every `rescan` seconds, but only when their entity count changed. - Each ranking reads every managed light's position plus the renderer's light rows (about 2 ms for 130 lights). **Where it's used:** `game.city.district` attaches it to the district root, with `roots = "district club"` covering the street and The Banana Split. ## Fields | field | default | meaning | |---|---|---| | `roots` | `"district club"` | Names of the entities whose descendant lights are managed, space separated | | `capacity` | 64 | Point + spot + area lights the renderer draws at once | | `spare` | 2 | Rows kept free for lights spawned outside the roots | | `lookAhead` | 10 | Metres along the camera's view the focus sits, so lights ahead beat lights behind | | `interval` | 0.25 | Seconds between re-rankings | | `rescan` | 5 | Seconds between checks for lights added under or removed from the roots | There are no sibling components to add.
