What it does

SigmaBoyRPG

The whole of Sigma Boy RPG in one component: run state, the school, the turn-based battle engine, every zui screen, the audio mix, and persistence.

Attach it to one manager entity in the scene. Each client runs its own instance, so a run is local to the player while the world stays shared.

What it builds

awake() spawns the five zones — Hallway, Cafeteria, Gym, Detention, Principal's Office — laid out along +X, each with its own floor, walls, props, coloured light, foes, and NPCs. Every spawned entity is temporary, so it never enters a scene save; the component is the sole owner and onDestroy clears it.

Fields

FieldMeaning
skipTitleOpen straight into the overworld instead of the title screen.
modeLive game mode (title, overworld, battle, …). Read-only in practice.
zoneZone the player is roaming.
auraLive aura — HP, currency, and social power in one number.
levelLive level.

Methods

  • startRun(period) — begin a fresh run at a period (1–5).
  • forceBattle(foeId, count) — drop straight into a battle against count copies of a roster id.
  • press(id) — fire a UI callback by id; the same path a click takes.
  • snapshot() — a table of live state for assertions.

Controls

sigma_controls.inputMap binds them: WASD to roam, E to interact, Escape to pause, 1–4 for the battle commands, and Backspace to back out of a battle submenu.

Persistence

Levels, gear, bestiary entries, bosses beaten, best-run aura, and the settings live in runtime_data.player(localId()) under sigma/. A checkpoint is written at every bell, so CONTINUE and RETRY FROM LAST BELL resume from the last period boundary.

Dependencies

  • sigma_data — zones, roster, skills, items, gear, dialogue.
  • sigma_ui — every widget tree.
  • sigma_audio — bakes the sig_* soundClips this component plays.
  • SigmaCam — the top-down camera it retargets for battles.

Interface

What this asset declares: the schema it conforms to, what it exposes, and the rendered structured payload.

SigmaBoyRPG — the whole game. One component owns the run state, the school, the turn-based battle engine, every zui screen, the audio mix, and persistence. setBackdrop(rgb: { number }) → void

Each zone gets its own background wash, visible above the walls at the camera's tilt. `sky.set` is the plain global for this — the `lighting` toolbox does the same job but a tool reference cannot be statically pinned, so the publish gate refuses content that calls it. The backdrop above the walls is a graded sky rather than one flat colour: the zone's mood tint darkens toward the zenith and lifts toward the horizon, so the top of the frame has depth instead of a hard band. Only the colours are set — leaving `type` alone keeps the procedural sky the scene was built with, which is also what lights the metal.

nameLabel(anchor: any, text: string, color: string, height: number, size: number) → string

Labels are their own top-level entities rather than children: a child inherits the foe's non-uniform scale, and `billboard` rolls the text under a pitched camera. The overworld camera holds a fixed yaw of 0, so an unbillboarded label facing +Z reads square to the screen.

Sweep by NAME PREFIX, not just this instance's OWNED list. A component reload (hot-reload, remove/re-add, an edit->play flip) hands the new instance an empty list while the previous instance's entities are still in the world; tracking only OWNED would leak a whole duplicate school every reload, complete with duplicate colliders.

# sigma_data All of **Sigma Boy RPG**'s static content in one place: zones, the foe roster, skills, items, gear, dialogue checks, telegraph text, and the level curve. Pure data plus the few pure functions that read it — no engine state, no entities, no side effects. ```lua local Data = require("sigma_data") Data.zones -- five zones, laid out along +X Data.foes.sigmund -- the final boss's stat block Data.skillById.rizz -- one skill ``` ## Layout | Table | Holds | |-------|-------| | `palette` / `paletteCB` | Saturated tints, plus colourblind-safe alternates for the gain/loss channels. | | `skills` / `skillById` | The five AURA skills with cost, `kind`, and unlock level. | | `items` / `itemById` | Shop stock. | | `gear` / `gearById` / `gearSlots` | Three slots, flat stat mods, all boss drops. | | `foes` | Stat block, `ai` behaviour key, mesh + tint, drop, lore, and counter hint. | | `telegraph` | Move id → the line shown over a foe's head. | | `zones` / `zoneById` / `zoneByPeriod` | Room size, floor and wall tints, props, foe placements, NPCs, and the period clock. | | `dialogue` | Overworld checks: one correct reply, plus the cringe penalty and forced battle for a wrong one. | ## Functions - `xpForLevel(level)` — cumulative XP to reach a level. Tuned so a run that clears every zone reaches Principal Sigmund at level 7, which is where the last skill (Grindset) unlocks. - `levelForXp(xp)` — the inverse. - `unlockedSkills(level)` — skill ids available at a level, in menu order. - `playerStats(level, equipped)` — `maxAura` / `atk` / `def` / `spd` with gear modifiers folded in. ## Adding a foe Add an entry to `foes` with an `ai` key, then place it in a zone's `foes` list. The `ai` value selects a branch in `SigmaBoyRPG`'s `setQueue` (which move it telegraphs) and `foeAct` (what that move does) — both must learn the new key, and every move id it can queue needs a line in `telegraph`.

# sigma_ui Every zui tree **Sigma Boy RPG** renders. Pure presentation: each builder takes a view-model table the game component assembles for the current frame and returns a raw widget tree. Nothing here reads engine state or mutates the game. ```lua local Ui = require("sigma_ui") ui.updateScreen("sig_hud", Ui.hud(view)) ``` Two screens carry the whole game: `sig_hud` (the overworld HUD, on a transparent root) and `sig_overlay` (every modal state, battle included, on a higher layer). ## Builders | Function | Screen | |----------|--------| | `hud(v)` | Aura bar + level, period clock + zone name, interact prompt, banner, toasts. | | `battle(v)` | Foe panel top, player stats bottom-left, command menu bottom-right, floating damage numbers. | | `mainMenu(v)` / `periodSelect(v)` | Title and period select. | | `settings(v)` | Master / music / SFX / text-speed sliders, subtitles, palette. | | `extras(v)` | Bestiary and unlocked art. | | `dialogue(v)` / `shop(v)` | Overworld checks and the Cafeteria Lady's counter. | | `pause(v)` / `status(v)` | ESC menu and the character sheet. | | `reward(v)` / `endScreen(v)` | Post-battle payout, win and lose screens. | `skin(palette)` returns the colour set for `"normal"` or `"colorblind"`; every builder takes it as `v.skin`, so switching palettes is one field. ## Conventions - **Buttons carry an explicit width.** A button without one collapses to its label, so `btn(text, id, width, skin, opts)` requires it. - **Absolute placement over flex** for the HUD and battle overlays: the root is a full-size transparent panel and each element is positioned with `position = "absolute"` + `left`/`top`. Coordinates are in `ui.screenSize()` space. - **Wrapping text puts the width on the container**, never on the label — a label with both `wrap` and a `width` collapses to one character per line. - `meter(frac, w, h, fill, track)` is the one bar primitive; aura, XP, foe HP and the period clock all use it.

# sigma_post The screen-space finishing chain for Sigma Boy RPG. `install()` registers seven full-screen passes, which run in this order: | Priority | Pass | What it does | |---|---|---| | 10 | `sig_ao` | Ambient occlusion. World position is reconstructed from the depth buffer and the frame's inverse view-projection, and the normal comes from that position's derivatives — so it needs no G-buffer normal and works on the forward and deferred paths alike. Occlusion tints ambient rather than multiplying toward black, so corners keep their colour. | | 30 | `sig_bloom` | Glow off the bright end of the image, gathered as a golden-angle spiral of taps with a soft knee above the threshold. It is one pass rather than a separable blur because each post pass sees only the chain's current colour and has no private scratch buffer. | | 40 | `sig_focus` | Tilt-shift defocus above and below the play band, which reads as a shallow lens over a miniature set and holds the eye on the character. | | 50 | `sig_grade` | Exposure, the ACES filmic curve, contrast, saturation, and a split-tone that cools the shadows and warms the highlights. | | 60 | `sig_lens` | Chromatic aberration, scaled by the square of the distance from centre so fringing appears only toward the corners. | | 70 | `sig_film` | Vignette plus grain animated from the frame index, weighted toward the mid-tones the way film emulsion behaves. | | 80 | `sig_sharpen` | An unsharp mask whose strength backs off where local contrast is already high, and whose result is clamped to the neighbourhood range so edges crisp without ringing. | Every tunable is a named shader property, so the look can be retuned live through `postprocess.setProperty(pass, property, value)` without recompiling — the defaults in this file are the shipped look. `uninstall()` removes all seven, and `passNames()` returns them in order for tests and tooling. `SigmaBoyRPG` installs the chain when it builds the school and uninstalls it on teardown, so a component reload does not stack a second copy of each pass.

# SigmaCam Fixed-angle top-down chase camera for **Sigma Boy RPG**. Lives on the scene's `PlayerPrototype` CameraRig. It resolves its subject through the standard `Camera.follow` slot, holds a constant downward pitch, and eases toward the subject with a per-second exponential blend. ## Fields | Field | Meaning | |-------|---------| | `target` | Entity id to follow. Empty falls back to `Camera.follow`. | | `pitch` | Downward tilt in radians (`1.05` ≈ 60°). | | `yaw` | Compass rotation in radians. `0` looks along `-Z`. | | `distance` | Orbit radius in metres. | | `focusHeight` | Height added to the subject origin before framing. | | `smoothing` | Per-second exponential follow blend. `0` sticks instantly. | | `useFocus` | Frame `focusX/focusY/focusZ` instead of the subject. | | `focusX` / `focusY` / `focusZ` | The override focus point. | ## Methods - `snap()` — drop the smoothing history so the next tick seats the camera exactly at its framing. ## Battle framing The game component turns `useFocus` on and writes the midpoint between the player and the foe, then lowers `distance`, to pull the camera into a duel shot. Turning `useFocus` back off returns it to the player.
