director
Drive the Raising Preseed demo sequencer while it plays — jump straight to a part, freeze it, rebuild it after an edit, and read the clock.
The demo is a 14-part, ~5½ minute timeline. Watching it from the top to reach
part 9 costs four minutes every iteration, which is the whole reason this
toolbox exists: director.goto tides puts the part on screen in one call, and
director.hold freezes the clock so the part stays there for as many captures
and edits as the work needs.
The loop this is for
director.goto tides -- put the part on screen from its first frame
director.hold true -- freeze the clock; the part keeps simulating
… edit the part module / its materials / its shaders via the VFS …
director.rebuild -- tear the part down and build it again on the edit
capture -- look at the result
rebuild is the step that picks up an edit. A part builds its content once, on
entry, so editing its module changes nothing until the part is entered again —
rebuild runs its exit hook, despawns everything it tracked, and lets the
next tick run build + enter against the new source.
The clock
goto and replay both enter a part from its first frame. seek is the raw
clock move for landing at an exact moment inside a part — the third shot of
TIDES, the beat a strike lands on. rate runs the demo slower, faster or
backwards without touching the parts themselves: they are handed the signed dt,
so anything deriving its state from the part-local time reverses exactly.
status reports where the clock is; parts reports the whole schedule, which
is where the part names goto accepts come from.
Requires play mode
The sequencer only runs in play. In edit mode there is no clock to drive and every tool here reports that rather than pretending it moved something.
