Wake up, Peel. We've got a city to slice.
You are V, a street-samurai banana with a monoblade katana and a bendy shock baton. You're trying to make a name for yourself in Banana City, a rain-soaked neon sprawl run by fruit gangs. The game is a loving parody of Cyberpunk 2077: quests and gigs, ripperdocs and cyberware, visual-novel conversations, Breach Protocol hacking, and a katana that cuts enemies into neat, physical pieces.
What's in the city
- Slice-'em-up combat. Combo katana swings, heavy swings, a block that parries if you time it, and dodges. Tomato thugs, broccoli bruisers and watermelon heavies fall apart into clean slices.
- An open city. Walk or drive through Banana City: the Peel Kabuki night market, Goldrow, the park and more. A minimap and a full city map show where you are.
- Quests and gigs. A main story ("The Rotten Apple"), side jobs and fixer gigs, all tracked in the journal.
- Visual-novel conversations. Up to seven dialogue choices, with four romanceable characters.
- Vendors. Noodle Nana's, ripperdoc Doc Kumquat, Hiro Durian's Peel & Steel blade shop, Misty Mango's esoterica and Byte Banana. Each has its own stall, stock and lines.
- Hacking. Quickhack enemies and solve Breach Protocol grids.
- Megabuilding H10. Take the stairs or the glass elevator up seven floors to V's apartment and a rooftop skybar.
Progression (new)
Open V's menu with I. It has four tabs:
-
Inventory. Equipped slots (katana, baton and five cyberware slots) next to a grid of everything V carries. Every item has its own neon icon and a colour for its tier. You can equip, use, break down and upgrade gear here.
-
Character. Five attributes (Body, Reflexes, Technical, Intelligence, Cool), each up to 20, with live derived stats.
-
Perks. Five trees with 35 perks between them:
- Solo: brawling and toughness.
- Blades: katana and dodging.
- Engineer: armor and crafting.
- Netrunner: quickhacks and breaches.
- Headhunter: crits, kills, cash and cred.
Each tree's tiers unlock when its attribute reaches 4, 9, 15 and 20. You can respec any time for 100 eddies.
-
Skills. Five skills that level by doing:
- Solo: baton hits and taking damage.
- Shinobi: katana hits and dodges.
- Engineer: disassembling and upgrading.
- Netrunner: hacks.
- Headhunter: crits and kills.
Every skill gives a bonus perk point at levels 5, 10, 15 and 20.
How V grows:
- Levels. The cap is 50. Every level gives +1 attribute point and +1 perk point.
- Street cred. Cred is its own track, earned from kills, gigs, breaches and discovering new places. Your title climbs from Nobody to Legend. Vendors keep their best stock for mercs with a name:
- Satori Monoblade: cred 2.
- Mantis Blades and Plantain Crusher: cred 4.
- Kiwi-Kiri Thermal: cred 5.
- Zest Optics and Synapse Splitter: cred 6.
- Loot tiers. Gear comes in Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic and Legendary, and each piece has rolled bonus stats. Gangs drop gear in glowing rings coloured by tier, and bosses always drop Epic or better. You can break gear down into components and use those to upgrade a favourite piece tier by tier.
- Saving. Your progress, gear and perks are saved.
